I'm sure there will be some back end roster churn before the season is over, and for sure before the first round of the playoffs, but I'm not sure any such changes are really all that past due.

The Brewers have been playing at a 26-14 clip since August 1st and currently have their biggest division lead of the season at 5.5 games.

Some of those moves are 100% past due.

Also, yes your stats are impressive (26-14 clip since August 1st and currently have their biggest division lead of the season at 5.5 games.) but accepting that, and not trying to improve on it makes no sense.  There is always room for improvement.  Maybe had they given up on Rowdy/Anderson/Chafin etc that record could be 28-12 with a 7 game lead.

We can't just rest on stats because that is good enough, when with a few tweaks, we could be even better.

If you DFA players every time someone has a bad month or two you will have a lot of players who will go on to have success with other teams.

If you never DFA players, and you have guys sitting in AAA that are better, you can't improve the team as it sits currently.

We are about to embark on the playoffs, this isn't a time to remain loyal to players that are not helping you, in any way at all.  Just because we traded for Chafin doesn't mean we should continue to roll him out there.  He is just plain bad, and has cost us games.  I know Rowdy is a fan favorite (or was) but outside of the sac fly he provided us recently, what has he done before his injury, and more importantly, after his return.  The guy is plain dead weight.  Anderson is an entire different animal.  He is obviously in CC's doghouse, and if we aren't going to use him in situations that warrant it, then why have him on the roster at all.

There are justifications for standing pat, and there are justifications for making moves.  We need to do what is best for the team in a playoff push.  End of story.

No Yelich.  Wonder if what CC said last night about his health wasn't exactly true?  He said he was only planning to play him a few innings and there was nothing to report on his injury.  Now he is out of the line-up again?

WOAH. Conteras is catching Burnes today. Don't think that has happened since late April/early May

WOW!  Burnes hasn't protested?  To be honest, I don't like this at all.  Burnes is really comfy with Caratini, why mess with that unless Caratini is ailing in same way.  Hopefully Corbin doesn't let this get in his head and effect his performance tonight.

Well I imagine they are trying to see if Contreras can catch Burnes in the playoffs. I talked about it at the end of the game thread yesterday. During the regular season it doesn't really matter but come the playoffs when Burnes is pitching 25+% of our games, it becomes a bit problematic to have to include Caratini in the lineup especially with how he's hit the last 2 months.

Or this was a prescheduled off day and they're trying to ease him back into it. We'll see.

Yep. Especially if we have a competent DH in Donaldson or Canha or Tellez(?).  With all of the off days in the playoffs there really isn't a need for Wild Bill to get rest (as DH), so we need to get Burnes comfortable with Contreras back there.  Since Burnes calls his own game with the pitch-com anyways I don't see how this should be an issue whatsoever.

Yeah the reality of the situation is Contreras, Canha, and Tyrone have been the Brewers 3 best hitters since the ASB. If Contreras is at DH it forces one of Canha/Taylor to the bench and that would likely be Tyrone. So you have worse offense and defense if Caratini is behind home plate and the margins in the playoffs will matter especially to a team like us.

I don't know if we will actually get Contreras catching Burnes in the playoffs, but I am glad we are at least giving it a try while we have such a solid lead in the division and playoff race.

Well.      Tellez has been getting a chance to prove himself lately.

chafin Anderson and wiemer need to go.     Tellez I’m on the fence with.      But let’s face it.    He’s an out of shape first baseman who provides no other value unless he’s pounding the ball

Catchers need a break once in a while including Contrerus to stay fresh, Councell is just doing fine as far as playing time gos.

Yelich the same with his back issues, you want them 100% for the playoffs.

One thing we need to emphasize, Wiemer was never in their plans to start the season with the Brewers.  He was only here due to necessity, and the sad thing is, we ended up needing him most of the season.

I am certainly not faulting him for anything, fact of the matter is, he probably could have used another year in the minors, but that just isn't what happened.

I really hope he starts the year in AAA next year, gets some things figured out with his swing, and can help us out in the second half.

Why can’t Wiemer keep that role?

if Mitchell can’t help offensively, he should probably continue to get healthy & be ready for Spring Training

Weimer made a pitiful out on the bases last night that showed profound stupidity and lack of instincts. Last week he had a base stolen but he slid poorly and his foot dug into the ground and he was out. Outside of defense he just doesn’t do anything right. Mitchell is a much smarter player and base runner I would say.

Luis Arraez on a bit of a power surge. He had 1 HR in the series against us, but also a near HR on a fly ball, a double off the wall in CF, and 2 warning track fly outs to RF in our series. In the first 13 innings of the Marlins-Braves series he has 3 HR.

I just looked it up. The last time Contreras caught Burnes was May 22nd against the Astros. Burnes gave up 4 HR in that game.

Yah Except the Astros have been in 1st place for like 8 years if  exclude the COVID year. They can hit!

Burnes is due for about 100 runs to be scored in this game. So he’ll have to no hit them again in a 1-0 win.
