I think it's a really smart deal, getting the two options for 10 potential years is what really elevates it for me. Worst case it's 8 seasons for $10M AAV plus the buyout (I realize it won't be structured that way) and that's a risk I can live with and won't hurt the team.

Yo know, regardless of how this transpires in the long run…props to the Brewers making a record contract that no team, small or large market, has done. Much like the second Braun contract and the Yelich extension, this team invests 9 figures into players that no one expects a team in our market size to give out. Proof that, once again, those who complain that Mark Attanasio doesn’t spend seem to be wrong.

For all the flack we get for being a farm system for large markets, Attanasio has managed to keep a lot of guys around 8 and even 10+ years around since he took over.

Here is to hoping Chourio is the next HOF player with a Brewers cap.

I'm all for Chourio going to the HOF as a Brewer but considering they still have Yelich signed for the next five years, still hoping he is next.

That's a bit of an odd assumption. Counting his brother's money as a deterrent? That's a HUGE assumption that he'd risk holding his hand out to his brother rather than just...make his own money.

And yes, I think he'd be asking for a good amount. 8/80 is a good amount 4 years away from FA. That's a baseline. Maybe it is 7/80 with 2 TOs or whatever, but it'd be unrealistic of him to think he'd beat Murphy's deal.

Finally, yes, you're ALWAYS going to be giving up FA years. There is zero reason for any team to commit this type of money to a player just to ensure they get their money through arbitration. The FA years are the only reason you consider giving ~80M to any player.

Of course its just speculation but I don't think its crazy at all.   I mean, someone else was talking about one of the Bal top guys not being likely to take a deal like this early with a factor of it being he comes from family money.  Its the same thing, assuming his family is close and gets along.

Its not like he's still not going to make his own money of some kind no matter what happens (barring major injury or falloff before arb) but its a lot easier to take the risk of the year to year contracts when your family already has 100+ mil than it would be if it was just you coming to the USA broke from Venezuela with nothing.    In that case, if 40-50 mil gets put in front you its hard not to just put that in the bank and be set no matter what rather than getting greedy playing year to year hoping to get 125 mil instead (random numbers, not specific to Contreras).    This was actually something nationally discussed when Atl got Albies and Acuna on those deals and if the team was kind of taking advantage of their situations.     If you're a gambler, if already rich like he and his family is the year to year risk is like gambling with house money. If he was broke, then he's gambling with the money he needs to pay rent.

I think it's great they did this.  It's not that often you get such a highly ranked prospect in your system.  My hope is it works out great for both sides and he plays at or above expectations.  We should be celebrating the move and the risk the Brewers took to try and keep him here as long as possible.  Cheer this guy on!

#11 jerseys being mass produced as we speak.

Honestly, what percentage of this contract is going to be paid off by Jersey/Shirsey profits by the end of his first year?

Writing was pretty much on the wall, but this likely means that the Brewers are 100% moving on from Rowdy Tellez in 2024.

I think Chourio selecting #11 has 0% to due with Rowdy's future in Milwaukee.  Chourio probably had his pick of anything but a handful of numbers (Contreras, Yelich, Burnes, Williams, and the retired numbers).

I doubt Rowdy comes back, but I doubt anyone is saying, "well we just gave Rowdy's number to Chourio, so we can't bring him back now."

I just hope he doesn't go all "Gary Sheffield" on us...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."
