The runner does not have the right to be in the way. The fielder has the right to go after the batted ball. If the runner is in the way that is interference. A quick look on my small phone screen says that was technically the correct call of interference. But I would either wave off the infraction or call it a dead ball and no catch. I made that exact call in youth baseball but the fielder has fallen and not made the catch.

By the letter of the law, maybe. But considering it was unintentional and didn't impact the fielder really at all, and was just completely irrelevant to the play...use some common sense judgement...call the infield fly...and move on

Another entry into the hill I will die on. Every time an umpire ejects a player for no reason, MLB should refund every single paying fan. Just take away the right of umpires to eject players already. Every ejection should be reviewed by NY at this point. Clearly these nimrods can't be trusted with the power.

Looks like the strike call Harper was whining about was correctly called a strike. While it was a quick hook, I'm pretty damn tired of players whining after clear strikes are called strikes.

Feel free to be annoyed with their whining, it's not cause to get thrown out of a game. Whether a call was correct or not is only relevant in that it's slightly less pathetic when they are actually right for a change. In no other sport do players get thrown out of the game for disagreeing with a ref. Try watching an NFL game and watch how the coaches interact with the refs, and it's quite rare for them to even get an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty...much less get tossed for giving a ref an earful.

If only we had the technology to determine balls and strikes so there'd be no more arguments about them.

Whatever every other sport does, in baseball, arguing balls and strikes has always been a no-no. Umpires will usually allow a little griping as long as it isn't visible. The part that was shown wasn't all that bad but it didn't show him throwing his helmet so it's hard to tell if that was part of why he got the heave ho. Either way, every player knows better than to argue balls and strikes.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

This year I've seen a manager thrown out for literally nothing, because a fan said something to the umpire and the umpire thought the manager said it. The umpires don't deserve the power to throw people out of games. They clearly aren't applying it correctly even by the currently ridiculously low threshold for players/managers getting thrown out of games. If I had my way, 95+ percent of ejections wouldn't happen. In addition, add a warning system to avoid an ejection. Every other major sport has one.

Man that stinks for Atlanta and Acuna. Same knee; you wonder if he's going to have trouble with this the rest of his career.

Now I'm assuming Atlanta will win the World Series.

I think it’s actually the other knee, so he’s torn both ACL now.

Brought me back to this moment from a couple years ago.  "Schwarber is speaking for both sides tonight" was too true.  Angel was in fine form that night.

Angel was a bad umpire. Good. Too bad they make it so hard to get rid of these guys. I mean the data is there - it's not as if it's just fan perception (although that accentuates all of Angel's bad calls).

Oh well - good for baseball.

Referees have the power to eject players in every sport. What they can eject them for varies but there is some objectivity involved in every sport. There may be somethings umps should be prohibited from throwing out people for but arguing balls and strikes should not be one of them. If arguing balls and strikes was allowed prepare for a LOT of arguing in every game. Half the game would be a player or manager arguing balls and strikes if the ump had no way to stop them from arguing any call they disagreed with.

I wonder how much MLB had to pay him to retire?

Considering the timing of it I wonder if it was an ultimatum vs a bribe.
