If it was May 21, I would say, "of course."

Now that we're about a week from the deadline, I'd rather they go after a more impactful arm and save the tinkering for the offseason and next spring.

26yo Bryse Wilson (one million dollars)

35yo James Paxton (nine million dollars)

I know certain people are pushing Kikuchi, but what do you see in this guy?  He'd be a nice throw in type, but to make him the big piece of a trade that we send top prospects for is insane.  I just looked at his numbers, we can do better than this guy.

Kikuchi a one year rental, so he shouldn't require top prospects.

If you are just looking at ERA (4.54) you might not be impressed, but his peripherals (3.99 xERA, 3.58 FIP, 3.40 SIERA and 3.32 xFIP) all say that he has gotten some bad luck and is due for positive regression in the run prevention department.

He's pretty much the best SP option on the market not named Skubal, Crochet, Flaherty or Fedde.

Almost none of that is owed to Paxton by the team acquiring him.

7M, 3M in SB, 2M in 26M roster bonus. So it's a little bit of money for a guy with a much longer history of starting on a team that desperately needs a starter, not a guy who's gone 10 innings in his last 5 games.

Moot now that the Red Sox beat made the trade, but he'd have been a nice addition.
