Brewers scored just 28 runs in the last 9 games of the homestand and still went 6-3.

Cards lose to Dodgers 2-1

Not for me.

Plenty more opportunities for the Dodgers to lose. Don’t give the Cardinals any breath.

Are you actually worrying about a team that's 11 games behind us on August 18th?

Never count the Cardinals out until they’re eliminated. I’ve seen them go on a run like crazy in Sept

You never stop worrying about the horror villain until the lights go up in the theater. This is NL Central 101 stuff.

Guys the 2023 and 2024 Cards are not the Cards of old. You don't need to be scared of them anymore.

The ‘06 Cardinals were absolute trash. I still get mad thinking about that team. But I bet a girl that they’d lose the World Series against the Tigers. Lost the bet, took her on a date, and the rest is history, so not all bad I guess.

One of my favorite things to do these days is watch Counsell stumble through his postgame interview

He sounds monotone & sleepy - never makes eye contact with anyone - generally sounds miserable

The 2006 Cardinals were 9 games over .500 on August 18th with a run differential 73 runs better than the 2 games under .500 2024 Cardinals.

You guys have to let that boogeyman go. Yadi and Pujols aren’t walking back through that door.

I think I saw that story on Seinfeld………Todd Gack lost the bet that Dustin Hoffman was in Star Wars( as I recall Gack also thought that Richard Nixon’s middle name was Moe but I digress)  ……so  he had to take Elaine out……..his story didn’t work out as well as yours did……..😎

Sure, but that kind of illustrates the point that what you are on August 18th does not exactly indicate where you’ll be a month and a half later. On October 2nd, the Cards’ run diff was down to +19, and their putrid 83-win campaign actually exceeded their Pythagorean W/L by a single game.

The existence of that championship team is an abomination, made all the more galling by the fact that the Brewers have met or exceeded that win total ten times (about to become eleven) since 2006 and haven’t even won a pennant. So yeah, I want to see the Cardinals lose and go ahead and keep on losing forever.

Oh yeah, it’s been a great ending. But unlike Gack, I was really sure I was going to win that bet…

That voodoo walked out the door when Pujols and Yadi retired.

Technically 1.5 because the Dodgers have the tiebreaker over us but both the Phillies and Dodgers are within striking distance.

I’ve seen this a number of places. If you’re going to account for the tiebreaker, why move it a full game, which would still allow for a “tie,” rather than a half game, which would not?

Because at the end of the year there will be no half games as everyone will have 162 games played so you'll need to be a full game ahead of the team that has a tiebreaker over you.

Because the Brewers are 72 an 52

and the Dogers are 73-52 the extra win accounts for the 1/2 game.

Yes, but in that case being a full game up would trigger a “tie” in this version of the standings. If you move it a half game, if they end up tied in real life, the Dodgers end up a half game up in the altered standings. If the Brewers end up a game ahead, they are still a half game up and thus clearly ahead. It is all semantics, but I had just usually seen a half game adjustment before this year.

Attended the game last night—can confirm, if the panels are also closed. The first few innings had roof AND panels closed, and it was brutal. But when the panels opened up it made a huge difference

Was at the game today. The panels were open so it wasn't bad but I couldn't figure out why they left the roof closed. I asked the guy I was sitting next to, who is a season ticket holder and he said it was closed Friday despite it being a nice night out because the rumor was Mark A's wife was cold. 😂
