Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread! **2025**

I still have this dream that I missed graduating by one semester of high school and I have to go back at my current age.  Pure nightmare.

I have also had the college one at least once a year.

Lately I have been haunted by a woman in my dreams that I never see her face but I am constantly chasing her.  Woman has long black hair in a wedding like dress.  As soon as I get to her and she starts to turn around I wake up.  Every single time no idea what this dream means.

Yes, seems we've all had the class delinquency dream.

A recurring one I've had hundreds of times is finding money, then going to count it after I've picked it all up, and it turns out to be play money like from Monopoly.  To the point where generally I sniff it out in the dream and can become lucid at that point.  And likewise, if I happen to find money in my waking life, I do a quick reality check to make sure I am in fact awake.

When I was a little kid I had to go to a sleep doctor because I kept having a recurring nightmare. Still remember the dream, too. Had to stay up 24 hours which was absolute misery. I guess I don't go into the deepest phase of sleep which I think is all that came from the doctor visit.

We've all had this dream.  It's been documented, saw it in an article years ago.  It was something like ten years until I got over it.

I can't say that I have, honestly.  It's been 31-years since I graduated from college, though.  But I really don't remember ever having a dream similar to this.

Not saying you're wrong that "we've all had this dream."  I'm sure the documentation is pretty accurate.  But there are always outliers.

Please don't tell us about the dreams where you are naked...  😉

At U-MN, they have a class on bowling.  You show up and bowl and learn to score.  My HS gym class did that in 3 classes.

Stories like "Clap for Credit" and bowling at U-MN make me wonder why people escalate big universities over smaller colleges.  I graduated from MSOE and my easiest classes were Political Science and Calculus I (a repeat from HS).

Living in the MSP area, the companies I've worked at are gaga over U-MN grads... then I find out that 1/3rd of their classes are fluff.

Day 1 of trying out ladies' press-on fake nails to try and mitigate my nail-biting habit. Glue isn't that great on some and they're all turning a little white despite the matte polish I used.

I know I'm starting to get "old" at 38 when our intern at work (just finished his freshman year of college) does not remember computers with spinning disk hard drives.

I guess I can start understand my dad talking about RAM in megs.

And in turn, I feel old when I hear that someone's dad talks about RAM😂

No one will ever need more than 640 kB of RAM....

Thanks for making me feel old. 😬

My dad also calls Windows XP Windows XT. I'm sure people here remember the IBM XT computer...I do not.

I really want to use a C64 or some other 8 bit computer just once. I would like to compare and contrast with games I played before having kids. Today's games just seem to complex.

My friend had a C64 growing up.  Honestly, I thought it was boring.  And I played a game consol that had 4 different versions of pong.  The controls where a simple knob you spun CW/CCW to make the paddle go up and down.  You plugged it into a TV via the antenna inputs and turn the TV to channel 4 (we had a channel 3 OTA station).

I bought a coffee at Dunkin I bought a coffee at Dunkin. I paid with a 20 and received change back with no issues. I owed my daughter (18 years old) some money for a purchase she made for me. When I gave her the money, she said what is this weird looking $5 bill. It was from 1969. Amazing how this $5 found its way back into circulation.

Yea. I wouldn't want to make it my primary PC. It's the same reason I want to try golf clubs from the 1800's. Feathery included!

Orlando Arcia and Keston Hiura are indeed with the Colorado Rockies, and they just clinched their first series win of the season on June 4, according to Reviewing the Brew. The Rockies won their series against the Marlins.

A few weeks ago, my wife had mentioned that there was a new "Knives Out" movie coming out soon.  Of course, Facebook/Siri/whatever was apparently listening, so over the next couple of days, I kept getting tons of ads for knives and swords on Facebook.  So, naturally, I yelled at my phone, "Hey, Facebook AI, I don't need any actual knives!  My wife was talking about a movie!  Now what I would like to see is more hot babes and smoked meats!"  And, yes, quite quickly, several meat company ads and smoking meats groups started showing up on my feed like clockwork.

Anyway . . . this is a round-about way of asking if anybody have any experience with Butcher Box or other similar online meat source?  Since I keep seeing the ads, I might as well as if they are worth the cost, etc. for my own information as well as any other Brewerfanatic members that might be thinking the same thing!

Thanks in advance!

EDIT:  I'm adding in a mention that, no, the AI did NOT suddenly start showing me hot babes on my feed.  So, obviously, this AI still needs a lot of work.

I used to do Omaha Steaks but only because they offered a free crockpot and well this is the best crockpot I have ever had.  The meats were ok nothing great.  Don’t get the burgers they are overpriced and taste bland and shrink smaller than a slider at a local dive bar.

I have used Butcher Box once or twice sometimes it is worth it and other times not so much.  The subscription can suck especially if you need to make food for more than two people.  Sometimes the steaks were really small and other times the correct size and weight.  Taste wise they are nothing special and probably equal to what you can get at the supermarket.  Same problem with the burgers again where they shrivel up to tiny little sliders.

First, check around to see if there are any butcher shops in your area.  Not a grocery store, but an independent, local butcher shop.  If so, go there.  You'll always get better meat quality than anything online.  Example - Ken's Meats & Deli in Monona, Jacob's Meat Market in Appleton (which also has a fantastic craft beer selection).

Similar feedback from me... I've been given Omaha steaks, burgers, chicken, hot dogs.  The steaks are normally good, but the price is always crazy compared to a local butcher.  There is a butcher chain store around me that I hate and almost equally expensive.  But if you get out to the rural ones (i.e. locally sourced beef), they tend to be reasonable price and good quality.

However, my favorite is buying half a cow from someone I know.  Hands down the best steaks I ever get and for about the price of store-bought hamburger (i.e. $4-5/lb after processing and packaging).

Unfortunately, the local butcher shop is pretty poor.  And the next closest is a good 45-minutes away.

I appreciate the comments
