Spring Breakout in 2024 was an exciting showcase of some of the top talent in the minor leagues. With the Brewers in possession of one of the deeper farm systems in baseball, who made the cut for their Spring Breakout roster this year?

Spring Breakout was an exciting addition to the 2024 spring training slate, featuring some of the top prospects in each organization facing off against each other in 15 showcase games. We saw players like Jacob Misiorwoski, Logan Henderson, Cooper Pratt, Brock Wilken, and (most importantly) Jackson Chourio taking center stage. This season, the roster projects to look a little different, but given some of the seismic leaps taken by Pratt, Chourio, Henderson and Misiorowski, it really is a must for the Brewers fanbase to tune into.

When Is The Brewers Spring Breakout Game?
The Milwaukee Brewers have been given the honor of closing out the Spring Breakout weekend, with a fixture against the Cincinnati Reds (who have their own top farm system) at 7.40 PM CT on Sun. Mar. 16. It's to be broadcast on MLB Network and the Gameday app via MLB.tv.

Who Are The Standouts On The Brewers' Roster For Spring Breakout 2025?
Jesus Made is the obvious choice here, as one of the highest helium prospects to leave the Dominican Summer League in recent memory. Still just 17, Made will be a fascinating watch given the loud set of tools at his disposal. We've yet to see him play against competition this stout and interesting.

Cooper Pratt is another key figure at shortstop, with a minor-league Gold Glove award and a strong hit tool that give him a strong blend of raw tools to work with. Pratt may be contending for an Opening Day roster spot in 2026.

Braylon Payne is more under-the-radar, but the Brewers' first-round pick in 2024 showcased electric speed, great plate discipline and a surprisingly loud bat in his brief sojourns last year.

Brock Wilken is a thumping third baseman, hoping to start a bounce-back season. With light-tower power coming from Wake Forest, Wilken looked fantastic post-draft, but struggled after being beaned last season. How his offseason progressed (and any changes he's made) will be intriguing to see, but he's still one of the top bats in the system.

On the pitching side, Jacob Misiorowski is expected to return, while Brewers second-round pick Bryce Meccage is expected to make an appearance. Meccage is a teenager from New Jersey with a fastball up to 95 mph at 18 and a real feel for spin on his slider and curveball (as well as a fascinating "kick change" changeup).

There's also 11th-rounder (from 2023) Bishop Letson, who performed well given his age in Low-A Carolina, and Brett Wichrowski, who showcased some surprising raw stuff out of nowhere in 2024 spring training.

Who Missed Out On The Roster?
Sadly, there are several notable absentees, due to injury. Jeferson Quero isn't expected to be ready for game action by that point, while Robert Gasser and Josh Knoth have both gone under the knife too recently to make an appearance. Also notable by his absence is Tyler Black.

The Brewers are up against a Reds outfit featuring four MLB top 100 ranked prospects led by Chase Burns. Burns was the no. 2 draft pick in 2024 and replicated the type of numbers put up by Paul Skenes in college. It should be a fun game between two high upside, talent brimming farm systems.

That's a dang good list of players.

Pitching kind of runs out towards the end, but the lack of Logan Henderson is kind of telling. I think he's gonna make the team.

Who is Jack Hostetler? Is he a free agent signing from last draft? I see he is 21 and had decent stats at Whitman but that name is new to me. Is he this years KC Hunt? Usually I am good at knowing most of our prospects but someone appears to slip through the cracks.

Yeah, looks like an undrafted singing from last year.

Nice strikeout numbers with 144 K over 116 IP at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.

Reigned in the control big time his junior year - 27 BB in 24 IP as a Freshman, 14 BB in 17 IP as a Sophmore, then down to 35 BB in 75 IP as a Junior.

Had a dominant showing in the Alaskan Summer League too posting a 1.41 ERA over 32 IP with 37 K, 7 BB and only 16 hits allowed.

He flashed some good stuff in his ST outing that had statcast. FB up to 97. 5 pitch mix. Definitely could be this year's version of KC Hunt.

Most recent YouTube footage I could find is a couple two tree years old, but looked to have a pretty whippy arm action and interesting release angle...

Also came across this "Catching Up With" video produced by Whitman Athletics that talks a little about the signing process and some of the mechanical things that helped him to cut down on the walks...

Article from when Hostetler First Signed

Whitman is out my way. The Whitman alums donated a bunch of moolah to refurb their stadium and locker room (also home to the Walla Walla Sweets). It was really cool to see Hostetler sign the year of opening the new facilities. Brought good attention to their program so it was really cool to see. Anywho, Hostetler was definitely a player the Whitman staff loved so it will be fun to watch his career get started.

Also, why is Dylan O'Rae in CF intriguing? He's been playing in CF since he first came aboard full-season ball and his innings and starts there have trended up. The only thing I would personally consider intriguing in Dylan O'Rae's game at this juncture of his young career is if he added muscle and twitch to his frame. In the lone AB I saw in ST (granted a lone AB is obviously a hilarious statement to make), I did not see much of anything added this off-season. He looked like the exact same player (in terms of stature) I saw struggling mightily to match the strength and speed in Double-A ball after 2024's promotion. Counter that to Luis Lara who very very clearly added muscle and mass to his frame. A development that gave me great pre-season 'vibes'😅.

I can see I'm going to have to publicly 'fight' for INF Josh Adamczewski like I did for my Captain of Team Under-Appreciated in INF Jadher Areinamo who is only finally getting his dues. Our squad has been taking hits over the past season plus. We lost RHP TJ Shook from our pitching staff. That's fine. We'll regroup. I know Adamczewski will wake the org up as he advances in his career. At Team Underdawg (TM), we're used to these casual oversights. Time to rally the troops.🫡

Wow what a young squad. I mean 8 players have yet to play a professional season in the States. There are 3 former DSL players (Pena, Made, Anderson), 4 players from 2024 draft (Dinges, Meccage, Payne, Burke) and 1 UDFA (Hostetler). I thought last year we had more A/AA players on that squad.

And we have a few 2023 draftees (Wilken, Pratt, Bitonti, Wichrowski, Letson, Yoho).

Interestingly no Boeve, Hunt along with no Henderson or Black.

Boeve had labrum surgery after the 2024 season. Learn more at this link via Dan Zielinski which includes a much-listen/watch interview for Boeve’s return timeframe.

Well this is fun. Love that this is a thing though IIRC there was a significant pitching injury last spring (was it Logan H?).

So what's the starting infield? Start the older* batch so Wilken - Pratt - Areinamo - Burke then swap out to the even more youthful youth movement Adams - Made - Baez- Bitonti? Or pander to the fans and run out Bitonti - Pratt - Made - Burke to start? Three catchers (with Dinges maybe a candidate for DH or 1B?), nine infielders (and yet no room for Boeve, Black, or Adamczewski), and five outfielders. Somebody just plays the whole game on the grass?

Logan H also a prominent omission, but maybe he and Black are omitted cuz they have a chance to break camp with the Crew? Either would be surprising but then Miz and especially Yoho are playing too. Does 40-man status affect eligibility?

Also I follow this team's minors pretty closely and am not sure I've ever heard of Bryant or Hostetler.

*Not very old at all, of course.

Well shoot. I missed that completely, and must have missed in the Forum here too. Ugh I will watch later, interested to hear the time frame for return.

Thanks

Bryant was a signing out of Indy Ball last summer.

Obviously was old for his leagues but had a nice couple months with a 1.82 ERA and 33 K over 24 IP split between Carolina/Wisco.
