Maybe they will just keep Nestor (and his fresh arm) for a playoff run with Woodruff, Peralta Mis, and Cortez as the starters. That leave Jose Q on the outside.  Maybe they try to trade him?

The prerequisite is that this trade is done very soon to help 1B while Hoskins is out, but I’d like the fit of Bellinger basically replacing Bauers. The Yankees have plenty of bats at 1B/DH/OF and could use pitching. So maybe give them the choice of Quintana/Nestor plus another piece. It could help both teams.

Money could be an issue here? He is still owed roughly $12-$13mil this year and has a player option for $25 next year that I'd assume he will exercise. So in theory we could send Bauers/Cortez+ but we would be $8mil-ish light. So if the Yankees sent us ~$8mil we would be square in '25. Assuming he replaces Rhys next year we would be paying $8mil more for him next year than what Rhys is getting now.

Would Bellinger be a QO candidate after the '26 season?

The Ray's just traded a comp. pick #37 to the O's for Bryan Baker. Baker has good strikeout numbers but has been a pretty average reliever his entire career. My question is with our depth at pitching is there anyone that could be traded for a comp. pick in the next couple days.

Comp A

33=Boston (can't be traded Priester) 34=Detriot 35=Seattle 36=Minnesota 37=Baltimore (Baker deal) 38/39/40= Mets/Yanks/LAD (not sure these can be traded 1st round picks moved down 10 spots) 41=LAD (Lux deal) 42=TB (Springs deal) 43=Marlins

Comp B

66=Clev 67=TB (unsigned 24 pick) 68=Milw (Levonas) 69=Balt. 70=Clev (Naylor deal) 71=KC 72=St. Louis 73=Pittsburg 74=Colorado

Detriot at 37 stands out to me, they could use pitching help either starting (Quintana) long relief (DL Hall) or bullpen (??? Grant Anderson). We could get an addition prospect in return. Maybe KC would want Peguero for 71?

I like Nestor, but… we are so packed at SP.

Nester back to the Yanks for Devin Williams. Who says no?

The Yankees...

Man, I keep looking at bats to acquire and my eyes keep landing on Josh Naylor. He would cost less than Suarez by a decent margin and is a nice upgrade from Bauers. Our lineup against RHP would look so much better with Naylor included.

I’m not quite sure what inning limits are going to do to the rotation. Mis I think 100% gets shut down before playoffs. Priester might. Henderson will. Chad Patrick maybe. Woodruff hopefully not but he could run out of gas late in the season potentially. So with all that they might really need a guy like Nasty Nester.

Don't forget Myers and then Gasser and CarRod coming back. I don't think they will shut down Misi but I could see then limiting him to 50 pitches a game after he gets to like 130 or so. Patrick has thrown 124 and 136 the past 2 years so him getting to like 160 by the end of the year is doable. Priester only through 120 last year but did throw 150 innings in 2023 so he should be OK to get to around 160 or so. I am not to worried about Woody, he should get stronger/back to normal as the season goes on. If there isn't a decent prospect to be had I would just keep Nestor and move him to long relief for McGee and keep him as insurance.

I don't think we really need anything with how well this team has been playing. IKF or another SS would be nice as insurance for Ortiz but nothing huge. A power bat would be nice but I don't like overpaying for 2 months of a guy. Finding a controllable star in the OF or SS would be nice but there isn't an obvious candidate available.

Does anyone think Peguero, Payamps, or Hudson could bring anything decent back? Even just a borderline top 30 prospect wouldn't be bad.

This 100%. Mis pitched 97 minor league innings last year and is sitting on 89 now. Quintana was 175 in MLB. It is fine to have a vet rotation and lose a couple of lefties in the offseason.

Mis and AAshby in the playoffs would be great to plug for a couple of shutdown innings if things get spicy in innings 2-6 and then leave the standard Koening, AU, Megill trio to shut things down later. Bases loaded in the 5th...here comes the Mis for two innings of intensity.

Woo, Peralta, Quintana, Cortes (if things go as planned) and DLHall/QP for the rest of the 162 and then take our chances with all those arms vs the world.

I would not mind a field player added in exchange for any combination of: EMJr, CarRod, Wich, CCrow, JQuintana (inf), Wilken, and/or Peguero ...ALL of those players have others who make them redundant...this normally happens after drafting a few studs at those positions as well. (i.e. A first round 3B would lessen the sting of losing Wilken in a trade)

BOLD MOVE ALERT-- Zastryzny comes back and AAshby is traded in a huge trade for field player(s)...he is youngish, controllable, and can start in the future after showing he has the goods now. All the reason that his value might be the best for a trade.

I think some of our narrowing on who we want to deal really possibly changes before the day is over. Assuming we grab as positional player or two in the first 3 picks...

If we take a 1b .... Burke/Adams are much easier to deal. A middle infielder and suddenly Pratt and Pena are in play, etc

Let's revisit this in 12 hours.

Brewers are listed on CBS as one of the teams to pull of a "blockbuster" trade for Eugenio Suarez and the key piece going back to the Dbacks in Tobias Myers. I mean if that is the cost, Suarez will be a Brewer

"Blockbuster"?! Alrighty then.

Agreed, I would do that deal, pending we don't give up much else except for making room for some of our new draft picks.

I don't think the Dbacks would do this trade.  I also don't believe Suarez is even available or will even be traded.  The player that will probably be traded or they will try to trade is Lourdes Gurriel Jr..  It is also possible if they are fully out of it they will try and trade is Naylor.  I think the Dbacks will keep Suarez and try to resign him in the off season.  I believe they think they can keep him long term and possibly move him to DH or 1B going forward.

The Dbacks really love Suarez and I think they will prefer to keep him on the team and just take a pick if he does sign with someone else.

Gurriel is one of the worst defensive players in baseball, of course they would be open to trading him.

They pretty much said they are trading Suarez and they want young pitching in return. I think Myers isn’t great trade bait personally but it’s hard to peg his value and it’s not crazy especially if paired with a prospect.

Although really I think Suarez is probably unobtainable because the bidding is going to get nuts. The Yankees for example may beat any bid unless it’s Logan Henderson or something.

That link doesn’t say they are going to trade Suarez.  Actually it said nothing at all.  Mostly speculation by the journalist than anything else.

“I don’t want to sit here and hope that things are going to happen,” Hazen said. “I’m kind of done hoping. We want to see it happen. It is what it is — we’ve been waiting now for the better part of three-plus months.

This is a direct quote from their GM. This is what a GM says when he’s about to sell but can’t say “we stink and I’m selling”.

Any chance that we could try for Byron Buxton? It would be super risky but his contract is pretty reasonable for a star. The Twins could trade him just because of past injuries.

Patrick, Collins, Brock Wilken for Buxton and a couple million a year. We give up 2 blocked-ish players and the Twins get 2 young controllable starters and an solid prospects.

We could platoon Buxton and Yeli in LF to reduce injury risk. It would give us a the perfect 2 or 4 hitter.

He has a no trade clause and has publicly said he's a Twin for the rest of his career.
