I was excited to watch my first game of the season, but that fun lasted 3 pitches into the game and 3 innings total.  Hopefully this doesn’t become a trend but it is a long season and this team will have stinkers like this.

It’s just one game and, of course, there will be stinkers in any season.

But when the pitching staff, especially the starting rotation, is a big question coming into the season it’s pretty unsettling to see a disaster like today

Some positives:

We only play the Yankees one more time this year.

I would've definitely taken 1 win in this series. Still time for that.

We scored some runs against a lefty starter today (albeit with the help of some shoddy defense).

Still feels like spring training somehow. I expect we'll turn it around once back home. Better ABs today. We're going to figure it out. Probably tomorrow.

Scary thing is Dodgers look just as good or better than the Yankees.

Just put Thomas on waivers and call up Yoho. Maybe Thomas will choose to stay with the Brewers.

I sure hope not. Thomas is the kind of pitcher you wish on the Cardinal staff.

There has been even more game thread activity today in a non-competitive game compared to a competitive opening day.

Noticed that too. Negativity sells, but, mainly, weekday afternoon versus weekend afternoon probably has more to do with it 😁.

Jake Bauers 2025 ERA- 0.00
Nestor Cortés- 36.00

Who starts vs the Reds? lol

Bauers will be the opener

Call me old school, but if the other team has seven home runs by the third inning someone on the other team should have taken one in the ribs by now.

Check out those pear shaped bats the Yanks had

2 observations that I felt really changed the game.

1. In the second, Cortes got Judge to ground out into a potential inning ending double play. Turang didn't make a great throw but Rhys had one of the worst dig attempts I've seen (I haven't seen a replay so maybe not as bad as my 1st impression). That play really shifted momentum because the Yanks went 1B, 3R HR, walk.

2. I don't get bringing in Connor Thomas after Nestor. Hey the Yanks dismantled Cortes, let's bring in the exact same pitcher. That should have been Patrick and go to Thomas later if you need more length.

I am going to try no to overreact to that one. It was good to see our offense put up a strong outing especially with Fried to start (and amazingly throwing up to 97-98, 93.8 Ave fastball last year).

How would the Brewers roster look if we were a top-7 payroll team in the MLB?

Would we be better or worse suited to win it all?

Much better suited, of course.
