I think that he's the best player available at a position of need.  Would have preferred to trade back, but for who is available I don't hate it.

That being said, I would not have objected to Trey Amos at all.

I thought in your write up, you had Johnson top 10 and you didn't think he'd make it to 23.

What do you dislike about Johnson? Not that I disagree about Amos, but Johnson looked great in '23.

That stat was always kinda dumb. They spent most of that time with Jennings, Nelson and Adams who were all "lowly" second round picks. They didn't need to draft one early for most of those years.

I won't pretend to know a lick about Golden. But on face alone it's another smallish tweener WR who looks a lot like the guys they already have.

Watching Golden's body language walking up I was a little nervous that he was upset, but he really nailed it on stage.  The interview was great also.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Also stupid since they paid a 1st round price for Watson

Good pick given the huge need the Packers have but I am also assuming Johnson's medical issues are severe

I didn't think he had anything that serious but maybe it's just the number. I thought it was turf toe that sidelined him and then he pulled a hammy.

Packers drafting a WR 1st round hosting the draft is wild. lol

The both happen with about the same frequency

I read some teams had some health concerns about Johnson. That might be a reason for his drop.

No, never take a guy in the 1st round at a speed position who hasn't done any athletic testing because of injuries to their legs/lower body.  There have been rumors that his injury could be long(er)-term, and the thought pre-injury was that he had limited long speed to begin with.

Second round, worth the chance, but not first round.

And the Vikings were really smart. They had picks #32 and #34 but refused #32 so the Packers didn't get the 5th year...which would be particularly useful right about...now.

Still, I wouldn't say this is proof he's gone.

There are concerns about a knee issue that have come up

I think there's a knee concern in there, too - if a corner can't run a 40 at any point leading up to the draft, you can't take him in the 1st round.

Yeah, but they would have to pay the 5th year option price guaranteed which is 8-figures.  Hard to pay Watson 8-figures with his injury history.  I think it's better they don't have a 5th year option on him.

Yeah, that's fair. I think he's a pretty safe pick, but Golden kinda reminds me of Jameson Williams.

He's so explosive and he's well rounded.

I liked Thornton later just to get that deep threat as I didn't think we'd take a WR Rd 1, but a guy with his speed?

Golden might resemble a few of the Packers' current stable of wideouts, but he plays more physically and is faster than anyone they have in the room, even with a healthy Watson (if that ever happens again).

Not a reach to pick him where he went, and a big need position - hard to fault the pick looking at it from any number of ways.

Ok, please stop the snide comments about other people.

Yeah, they'll play enough 1-2 personnel that they can easily keep two TEs on the LOS and have two WRs off the LOS if they need to create separation for both Reed and Golden.

I’m happy about the pick. I think they could have got a good wr tomorrow and took Will Johnson still but I love the pick.

I think Johnson might still be available tomorrow, too

I agree, if they took a guy not typical size for what they like it is probably BPA at a need position. I like it, we don't take exciting skill position guys this high too often lately.
