Will Brewers fans give Willy Adames the same treatment as are the Yankees fans giving Juan Soto when he comes back to his former home?

I genuinely don't know if you are doing this whole thread/opinion as a rib to all of us or if this is how you truly have interpreted the situation.

There is not a disingenuous bone in my body on this.

The multi-millionaire, Willy Adames, could have stayed here if he truly loved Milwaukee and its fans.

He could have stuck up for the small market fans that loved him, but he didn't.

You say ... bbbut, he would have lost a lot of money ... well, he is already set for life, financially!

He was just a slave to the players union is the best I can say for him.

His love for Milwaukee was proven to be a facade.

Ok, fair enough. Respectfully then I cannot commit any more brain power to this convo. Carry on.

I figured I'd open this up to some long ridiculous rhyme.

The rhyme isn't here, but the ridiculousness is...

Following your own agenda is literally the opposite of the purpose of being in a union. The whole strength of a union comes from every member collectively working together for their goals. Members going rogue for their own purposes is what eventually breaks a union. It’s not about Adames, it’s about the guys that follow him.

Also, just curious if the booing is just reserved for Adames or if you are saving any for the owner with a net worth of 1.9 billion dollars who didn’t want to pay him market value, since I didn’t read any reports of the Brewers offering him a 7 year, $182 million dollar contract.

We CAN'T pay market value in Milwaukee.  It's the Rig Leagues.  The players union is anti-fan, too.

So that’s why we should boo Adames?

I still think it is inconsistent to boo Craig Counsell out of town, but embrace Willy Adames when both left for a fatter paycheck (and had no loyalty in actuality to Milwaukee or the Brewers or the Brewers fans).

Boo him for not being satisfied being a multi-millionaire in Milwaukee and saying he wanted to stay when he really didn't.

I think employer A guaranteeing nine times more money than employer B…anyone would be hard pressed to chose employer B.

Mark Attanasio could absolutely have afforded to give Willy Adames a 7 year, 182 million dollar contract, if he wants to. He absolutely has the means for doing so.

Oh, the MLB and player's union is at fault here no doubt!

BUT

Willy could have stayed and still been a multi-millionaire!

MLB is just so screwed up for small markets ... it's utterly ridiculous.  I wish there was some honest announcers, players, and owners who would just call out the elephant in the room!

To his credit this season, Pat Murphy has been hinting pretty hard at the elephant in the room!

Ya' think so?  I don't think so.

Willy Adames is no more loyal to Milwaukee/Brewers/Brewers fans than is Craig Counsell.

If Counsell deserves Milwaukee boos, so does Willy Adames.

They both bolted for more money and showed no loyalty.

I'm thinking about that ... not so sure about that.

Yeah...I don't know about that. Maybe because he was SOO much tied to Milwaukee.

But to go to the Cubs? The...Cubs? C'mon...really?

If you want to compare to Counsell, yes I believe Adames would hear boos if he went to the Cubs. Still would not have been as bad though since Counsell was born a Brewer and all of that stuff.

I actually don’t boo or begrudge Counsell either, although I might be in the minority on that one.

For us this is entertainment. For these guys, it is their livelihoods and careers. I am not really going to hold it against anyone who wants to make personal choices about their life and career, where they live and how much they make.

I hope they will embrace Milwaukee while they are here, and I hope Milwaukee will embrace them. Aside from that, as long as they aren’t being an ungracious jerk who badmouths the city/fans after the fact (see Winker, Jesse), I will wish them the best.

Want to be here? Awesome! Want to work somewhere else? Don’t want to spend your entire career and/or life in Milwaukee? Okay. Who am I to say that you should?

There is only one answer to this thread:

A flash of leather, a cannon's might,

Adames arrived, a glorious sight.

He anchored shortstop, with flair and with grace,

A spark in the lineup, a smile on his face.

The Brewers faithful, their hopes took a flight,

With Willy at short, everything felt right.

But payrolls and budgets, a difficult truth,

The cost to retain him, exceeded their youth.

With heavy hearts knowing his worth and his name,

They bid him farewell, though it wasn't the same.

When Counsel departed, a wound sharp and deep,

A leader, a legend, the promises to keep.

We cheered every move, every tactical call*,

Believed in his vision, he stood strong and tall.

The coffers were open, the offer was there,

To keep him in Milwaukee, beyond all compare.

Yet south he did wander, a bitterest sting,

To Wrigley's green ivy, the song Cubs will sing.

A rival, a foe, where our victories sting,

Craig's choice left a silence, where cheers used to ring.

I typed a great many words but after I typed it all out I found I could summarize my thoughts in just one sentence.

The fact you feel Willy Adames deserves to be booed says a lot more about your character than it does about his.

While you're booing just remember, Willy Adames was a member of this organization for just three and a half seasons. Wasn't drafted here, wasn't a minor league prospect here, never signed a contract here. I'm not counting any arbitration agreements because ultimately those are formalities unless a player wants to gamble against odds that are stacked against him. End of the day he's being told what he'll be paid, it's not up to him.

And none of that was his fault. He never had control of his own destiny until this offseason at the age of 29 and the Brewers didn't make him an offer, didn't even ask him what he was looking for in a contract. He wanted them to, they just didn't.

I guess I couldn't help myself, I typed more anyway.

I wonder if we all have different motivations in mind when it comes to booing.

For example, when imagine myself booing Counsell, I imagine it to be playful, and from a place of respect for what he did with Milwaukee. He can't seriously claim that he was naive to the importance of that rivalry. He knows what he did. He signed up for it, and again, that's fun, to have rivalries. So what if he plays the heel in this drama. Adames isn't a heel, he's a prodigal son.

I can't even remember a time when I booed a player out of frustration, or anger. Perhaps an ump or two, but never a player.
