Miz might be in over his head in this one, Skenes is awfully good

I'm not disrespecting Skenes at all, but should the above be in blue?  I don't see how either is in over their head based on how this game has gone

I hope he is always over his head then, if that is the definition of no runs given up in four innings and his pitch count is good for six innings.

There will be a drop off once he gets scouted intensely and what not, but this guy makes calling Peralta an ace look absolutely silly, which it was. And Freddy is fine, seems like a good guy, but they aren't even close.

I am blown away by what Miz is featuring. It's just a matter of health but dude is nastier than Burnes or Sheets.

It's DeGrom with worse command.

This is a random observation but for a guy that is always harped on for making soft contact and not being a power hitter.. in person, I don't know that another player swings harder than Sal Frelick.

I dunno, I think Chourio has the most violent swing on the team, if not the league, but Sal isn't bad. The problem is his swing is so level it's either a line drive or into the ground.

.. and I guess I just mean how much effort it looks like he is giving. Every swing his back foot grinds a half inch into the ground..

Regarding Jackson Chourio's bat speed:

He is known for his fast bat speed.

His average bat speed in 2024 was a robust 73.2 mph, and it increased slightly to 74.1 mph since the start of May in the current season (2025).

Whoever had 4IP in the prediction pool for Skenes's outing length, congrats.

Only times he has thrown 4 IP or fewer in MLB were his first career start (4.0 IP) and his last start of last year (2.0).

Has only had three games with fewer than 6.0 IP this year before today.

Maybe one of the first times in Skenes' career where the other guy has clearly better stuff. Skenes of course is the better more complete pitcher but I mean the Miz was absolutely eye popping today.

5 IP 2H 2BB 8K. Just wow. Miz will never be Maddux but if he can limit the walks the way he has recently then this is the Ace we all dreamt he could become

That was fun. Really fun. I loved those first few innings for many reasons, not least of which was the Brewers very Brewers second inning.

It's interesting how much this matchup says about modern baseball. Huge hype. Two starting pitchers throwing unreal stuff. Tons of legit excitement, a JUNE AFTERNOON SELL-OUT. And then the main reasons for all the attention are both done halfway through the game.

Not saying it's a bad thing at all. You can like it, hate it, appreciate it, whatever. I just think it's an interesting barometer for the modern game.

Very true. In the old days they would've both been out there until the 8th inning. That said Gaylord Perry was throwing 79 on a good day.

2 of MLB's smallest markets with an inconsequential late June getaway day game for the overall playoff picture, and it's a game with a legit national following / interest because of who's on the mound.

It's what makes baseball the best game - spectacle as much as sport when talent like this can be showcased.
