I would prefer getting a starting SS who plays great defenseand can hit 250. Is that too much to ask for? His name is Oneil Cruz. Not a two month rental. Pittsburgh needs pitching help.

Did you mean to put this comment all in blue? Cruz is the exact opposite of a great defensive SS. He's the worst SS in all MLB with the glove. Last year his UZR was a -8.4. worst for any MLB full time SS. His career UZR at short is -16.3.

Cruz is a brutal SS. One of the worst defensive SSs in MLB.

However if plus defensive SS, a BA over .250, and being on the Pirates is what you're looking for then IKF is your man

That is a massive overpay for 2 months. Glad it's not any of the top guys. I think Henderson is expendable. He mostly is a 2 pitch guy right now though those 2 pitches are darn good. I just need a controllable guy back though for that kind of package. I would be sad to see both the skis go.

First of all, I have huge doubts about this proposal by Hector Gomez. The Brewers certainly have no incentive to leak their offer, and there’s a ton of incentive by other parties, especially Arizona, to exaggerate where the bidding is at the moment.

But second of all, it seemed significant to me that they shifted Turang to SS tonight and had Durbin playing 2B, while the eminently replaceable Siegler manned the hot corner. Yeah, it was late in a close game where Murph was trying to generate offense and play matchups, and one is inclined to read tea leaves even in morning corn flakes during trade deadline week. But if they were doing a little test run of how a Turang - Durbin up the middle infield looks, that would be the most direct way to get a Suarez into the lineup.

Plus, “are involving in the proposal trade” is such a poorly-worded and ambiguous phrase, it almost makes me suspect the post is fake. Silly season is truly upon us.

Wanted to plug it into a model I coded as a pet project by no means is it perfect. And that deal is massively imbalanced in the D-Backs favor. I cannot see Arnold doing that unless he has a mandate from Mark Attanasio.

I think he doesn't speak English and is using google translate, so both languages can get the info.

Solid context, thanks for this. The language barrier would cause me to soften my criticism a bit.

I noticed that as well and thought the same thing. Circumstances made it logical, but it was a first that I can recall this season and could be symbolic.

My concern with a whole Suarez trade is this is a guy who is 34 having a career year. I think you're paying excess value for production you're unlikely to get. I don't think rest of season projections should be taken as religion but they vary from 113 to 126 wRC+. I just don't want to give up a package featuring a young controllable MLB level starter plus 2 more prospects for a guy who projects to be a roughly 120 wRC+, bad baserunning, bad defense 3B.

Agreed on all fronts. He is a great bat and will be a great addition but it all comes down to price. That is too rich for my blood for 2 months.

Wichrowski sure but I'm not moving the other two for a rental. Wichrowski, Areinamo, Burke are prospects we can move that have value.

I just hope the Mariners or Phillies beat the crap out of our offer.

This would sadden me deeply.

Perhaps Arizona is including Gallen or Kelly in that proposal?

We don't need either of them...

Logan Henderson would be a tough pill to swallow obviously, despite our wealth of young pitching.

I like Adamczewski as much as anyone (not quite as high on Wichrowski), but we have to be realistic about their worth in the grand scheme of things.

You gotta give to get, even for a rental. I'd be more apt to consider if we could swap Tobias Myers for Henderson.

Imo, Henderson ALONE is an overpay.

Suarez alone isn't going to fix this offense, we would need another BIG bat, and I shudder to think what other prospects might be included.

I love and hate this time of year.

I have no problem believing that those three names were mentioned. But ALL THREE of them going in a Suarez deal doesn't seem likely. I love Adamczewski. But we all know how run prevention is held in high esteem around here and Pratt, Arienamo & Pena all have him aced out in that category (Made has had struggles but hasn't found a primary home yet & isn't going anywhere anyhow). My way-too-early prediction is Josh finds a home in LF some day.

I'm fully on board with @Brewcrew82, that if this gets serious you try to swap in Myers for Henderson, or Patrick + a pitcher a little more fringy in Hendersons' place.

IMO, Turang moving to SS today was simply a byproduct of the late inning moves, that Murphy wanted to hold back Monasterio to run for Vaughn if need be, Monasterio was the last person on the bench who's been used at 1B, and Frelick was apparently off-limits.

That would be a steep price to pay for someone who is having a very good season, but isn’t a star. But if that’s what it takes to get him and the organization thinks he’s the missing piece, then I’m up for it. Those are nice prospects, but not irreplaceable talents

Hector Gomez isn't a reliable source, and Curt Hogg proposed those 3 in a Suarez trade in the JS. He's just repeating that as a breaking rumor.

Edit: It was JR Radcliffe who proposed the package for Hogg to review.
