Anybody have any thoughts about Cole Prosek?

He’s Matt Erickson’s (our 3rd base coach) nephew.

However, he’s old for the class which means he’s basically dead to us.

Connor Comeau feels like a more Brewers-y version of Bitonti. Hit over power, but looks like he could add 50 lbs and be a monster.

If we could get him and one of the young SS in the 2nd (Maniscalco, Ebel, Marchaund), I’d be over the moon.

I still think in the first round it is going to be Zion Rose if he is there at 25.  This maybe the Cubs pick at 23.  He just checks so many boxes of what the Brewers look for.  Very similar profile to Frelick but with more power and a higher ceiling.

Comeau reminds me a lot of Brady Ebel that we took last year: similar builds, current hit over power but potential for both down the road, strong arms but lack of foot speed limits their defensive ceilings, both left-handed hitters that are still 17 on draft day. I think Bitonti's power was more of a known-quantity when he was drafted than either Ebel or Comeau, but I can see the comparison. Regardless, Comeau would defintiely be an asset to the org if we were to add him.

O911637zI think I have 3 categories of picks.

1) Shear upside/best pick= P Brody Bumilla  at 6'9" he has a similar to Misi profile at 18. Although he is already 255 pounds and mostly filled out. There are past injury concerns but he seems like the biggest upside pick who could potentially be available. He also could go in the top 10 with that upside.

2) Best Value= 2B Jarren Advincula. Absolutely raked at GT, at 6'2" he isn't just a slap hitter. Most evaluators have him as a 2B but our system could add some 3B, corner outfield or 1B to add value. For a guy who would likely take well below slot he seems like a high end value.

3) Value power bat= 1B/3B Gavin Grahovac

Grahovac isn't my favorite prospect but with Fischer, Burke, and Wilken fitting this mold it is hard not to envision him as an option. I love Myles Bailey from FSU as this mold of player, he was having a huge year before injury. Probably more of a 2nd rounder.

My current mock

1) 2B Advincula

2) 1B Myles Bailey

3)HS pitcher Jack Slightom  Midwest arm who went from like 88 to 93-95 from JR to SR year fits our mold.

What about Peyton Bonds yes the nephew of Barry Bonds.  Probably is a 4th-5th round pick or later.  Kind of intrigued by his power and speed.  Definitely a raw development project and he maybe too old for that.

I've considered Peyton Bonds as he has some qualities the Brewers tend to go for. For a college player, he's still quite young actually (turns 21 on 7/19). Really good bat-to-ball skills, terrific CF defense, and though he hasn't shown in-game power much to this point, he showed in the Combine that it's there. From what I'm seeing he's expected to go around the 3-4 rounds, but wouldn't be surprised if someone grabbed him earlier.

The issue with Peyton is he swings at everything.  Really bad chase rates.  I think that will ding him a lot and bring down his draft stock.

I think this may be year that the brewers take a massive risk and draft Bumila. I would also be OK with Kuhns if they want an advanced arm. The brewers are in a position where they can actually take best player available. I do think its fair to say that their pitching depth in the minors is not as good as their positional player depth.

I'm curious to see how far Bumila falls. He already had internal brace surgery and now sounds like he might need TJ?

Before the incoming Tommy John surgery I would have 1000% agreed. Would be tantalizing to have him and Miz in the same rotation.

one guy I like in the 2nd Round is Dominic Santarelli, 1B, St. Joseph Catholic.

My friend is a high school coach in Southern Wisconsin and has played against him a couple times. Says he is an absolute specimen and a really good kid too. Stayed til the bus had to leave to take pics with all the kids and sign autographs. I would be stoked if we can grab him.

Some guys I like:

1st (#25):
Logan Reddemann, RHP, UCLA (little underslot, was just arm fatigue and not a serious injury)
Landon Thome, 2B/3B, HS (son of one of my favorite non-Brewers of all time)
Taj Marchand, SS, HS (same HS as Gorman Thomas, and still only 17 - it was meant to be)

2nd (#66):
Jensen Hirschkorn, RHP, HS (may have a lower number for the Brewers after seeing what the Brewers did with another tall, lanky RHP)
Ben Blair, RHP, Liberty (power sinker getting ground ball outs 50% of the time plus a cutter with late life and deceptive delivery)
Evan Dempsey, RHP/OF, Florida Gulf Coast (expect velo to tick up if pitching full time, 3000rpm curveballs)

3rd (#102):
Julian Garcia, RHP, HS
Brett Renfro, RHP, Virginia Tech
Sean Dunlap, C, HS

Some smart baseball people that I follow on social media seem to be really high on Marchand's bat. I've seen some say he has some of the highest hitting potential in the draft.

If the Brewers are to draft him it would have to be with their first pick.  He should be gone by the supplemental picks.

thats why I used the word massive. The system is so strong its a boom or bust pick.

Let me first start out by saying I have very little confidence in my predictions. I have studied this draft class and previous Brewers drafts thoroughly and I still have no idea which way they will end up going. In short, expect the unexpected.

After much deliberation, here are my Day One predictions:

#25Taj Marchand, SS - James Island, SC (Mississippi recruit)

Alternate: Tegan Kuhns, RHP – Tennessee

#66Ruger Riojas, RHP – Texas

Alternate: Trey Ebel, SS – Corona, CA (Texas A & M recruit)

#102 – Eric Nachtscheim, RHP - McNeese

Alternate: Tyson LeBlanc, SS – Kansas

#130 – Garrett Wright, C/OF – Tennessee

Alternate: Maxx Yehl, LHP – West Virginia

Day Two High School Targets

Besides the two high schoolers already mentioned, I could see these players as targets in later rounds:

Henry Abt, OF – Brandon, MS (Southern Miss recruit)

Nathan Bryant, RHP – Akron, OH (Ohio State recruit)

Bryce Cuero, RHP – Springville, NY (South Florida Recruit)

Asher Delue, LHP – Princeton, NJ (Boston College recruit)

Dylan Kassab, C – Hinsdale, IL (Indiana recruit)

Andrew Mahoney, LHP - Novi, MI (Cincinnati recruit)

Kaeden Schatsiek, 3B/OF – Brimfield, IL (Illinois State recruit)

All are young (18.1 or younger on draft day), all are going to quality college programs though none should be considered “unsignable,” and all are from areas of the country the Brewers scout heavily.

I am also really thinking it will be Marchand as I think the other Brewer type targets will be gone by then, unless the Brewers really zag with the smaller pool this year and go with an underslot pitcher or something.

I love perusing this thread and seeing some info and intel on some draft prospects, and I think we have had a few in prior years that the Brewers did pick.  Has anyone done a deep dive into our prior draft threads to see which players discussed wound up with the Brewers or drafted around the spots predicted?

Just curious more than anything.

Excited for this weekend and then coming here to learn more about the next 10-20 players the Brewers get to add to their already promising pipeline.
