"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I was thinking Yelich could use a game off. He has looked terrible at the plate the last 3 days. That would let Contreras be DH again so he doesn’t catch 2 games.

I assume Durbin and Siegler will each play one game, consistent with the platoon.

Id like to see Frelick and Turang play both games unless Frelick’s knee isn’t up to it.

it wouldn’t shock me if Murphy goes full platoon with Monasterio and Lockridge both playing game 1.

I really want to see Collins in both games.

Of the top ten reasons for playing splitters, that's #s one through ten.

#11 is if seats were sold to different people (or different partial season ticket packages) for the two games, who gets the seats for the doubleheader?

My guess is that with how well the Cubs did the first half of the season that there weren't a lot of unsold tickets for the series.

Tough game to throw him in here though

Why on earth is this a tough game to throw Chad Patrick with a 9 game lead???  You make comments and never give one single reason as to why it is a bad idea?  Heck there are 38 games left with a 9 game lead.  If this isn't a good time to use him there never will be. This is a perfect time to pitch him.  We just can't pitch our top 3 twice per week.

Do any of our left-handed batters get the afternoon game off?

Chourio/Collens coming back soon. Collens should play one of them today.

Patrick hasn’t pitched for the brewers in his knows how long and the first game back he goes against the cubs best pitcher by far in what is probably the biggest series of the year division wise.  But you are right there is a lot of cushion.   But it is different than throwing him against the nationals.

Still won't be even close to the pressure of a postseason appearance.  So all the better to get some type of pressure now.  So that if/when he is actually makes an appearance in the playoffs (this year or next😉) he is just a teeny bit more ready.

That was the point of my post. You can't pitch one of your top 3 starters every single game like they did in the 1930's. Patrick will have a fresh arm also.

RHP Chad Patrick gave up 5 long balls in his last two Nashville starts. Lotta hangers. Not wall scrapers. Here's hoping he was just 'working on things' and he gives us an 2025 MLB Logan Henderson type performance.

A 2025 Chad Patrick type performance will also work! He's still somehow second on the team in pitcher fWAR. 😅

I mean, it is a tough game for Patrick to be thrown into - that's hard to debate. But, there are no better options with 5 games in 4 days (I look at it as 6 games in 5, meaning the SP from game 1 - Quintana - is not available for game 6 like he would be in a normal 6 in 6 schedule).

I also am slightly concerned about having the possibility of two short-ish starts (Patrick for effectiveness and Woodruff to save his long-term workload) today, and another one with Miz tomorrow. The injury to Hall was quite unfortunate at this particular point in time. We would have been better off with 3 long relievers in the pen for this series.

Maybe the Brewers are doing well because we have only about 4 or 5 players who play every game?  As for Patrick, I'd rather pitch him than another starter on short rest.  That shouldn't even be arguable with our standings lead and also having a doubleheader today.  I said earlier in the season when someone asked the exact same question, "these players aren't machines where if they break down you can just go out and buy a spare part."

This.  They get an extra pitcher and they need a starter.  Henderson is on the IL, Gasser isn't there yet in his rehab process, and the only other starters on the 40-man are are Patrick and Carlos Rodriguez.

Patrick is unquestionably the best option.

Agreed, but the good news is that the Cubs are in a similar position, only worse, because their pitchers aren't as good as ours.

So if they win one of the two today, is Carlos Rodriguez an option to come up for Patrick, and play long man for Miz tomorrow?  Since no DL, and Myers has pitched a bunch on Sunday.

They would have to send someone else down to call up Rodriguez.  Patrick is the extra pitcher (technically roster spot #27) for the DH so they can't replace him tomorrow.

They could send someone else down (such as Anderson) and call up an arm to replace that person.  Payamps hasn't pitched since 8/16 so my guess is that he's in Chicago ready to be called up (with an Easton McGee DFA to make room on the 40 and Anderson sent down) for tonight or Wednesday if a fresh arm is needed.

i'm sure i'm in the minority here, but I think game one would be a good time to give Yelich, Turang, and/or Frelick a day off against the tough lefty, especially with these x games in x days stretch we're in.
