I really like Myers's splitter, it floats more than it sinks but is very effective. Kind of reminds me of Imanaga's

I feel like he gets a LOT of whiffs on that pitch.

Good pitcher made a good pitch. Game turned on Vaughn’s defense, but the Cubs needed to throw some of their best out there to hold this one.

I feel good about tonight. The good guys should be ready to roll.

Sal's knee must really be bothering him unless he was being extra cautious there.

for real. I thought he would be a lock to get to third base on that hit.

No reason to risk going to third down by 2.

3-for-10 with RISP today, but no big extra-base hits with RISP. Only picked up 1 RBI with 2 outs.

A good number of potential runs left on the diamond in the first two games of the series. Cash in one or two more of those opportunities today, and it's likely a win.

Losing by two runs when giving up two unearned runs should also sting a little bit, given the team's emphasis on defense.

Go get a win in the nightcap.

Yes.  We can

Well, we actually can't.  He pitched just fine.  Bad play by Vaughn likely cost him a quality start.

You've said this many times and no one has agreed with you.

Get this game tonight or the cubs are going to have life with two games left.    All we need is one more win and I feel good about our chances.  A 7 game lead after this series is acceptable

Yes they have.   All I was saying was it’s going to be tough for Patrick to throw him in this spot.   It would be tough for anyone coming from a long stint in the minors.     It really wasn’t a great outing.   It’s not illegal to get a guy out after an error to pick someone up.    He didn’t really handle it well the first three innings.    But that was expected.    I don’t know why everyone got their panties in a bunch about it

he was expected to lose and he did. I thought the bats did enough against Boyd to give us a chance if we had one of our regular starters here.    But this is the BS you face with 5 games in 4 days.    But if woodruff loses to their “extra” pitcher tonight then no excuses at all

I thought he had issues settling in, but overall Patrick gave you about what you could hope for from a spot starter who hasn't been up in awhile & has been getting cuffed around recently in N'Ville. Dillard mentioned the two walks to Suzuki, which weren't headliners but cost him maybe much more than the two runs Suzuki  wound up scoring. And the error, of course, which was on Vaughn but maybe to me a 75-25% thing. A poor feed but not one that's impossible to catch.

The plate discipline vs Boyd wasn't bad, but especially good in the 2nd inning. I like them having to go to their BP for 3.2 with another game to play. And he's the enemy now, but you really have to give it to Pomeranz for coming all the way back at this stage in his career.

A kid with not much of a 'book' on him hit an opposite-field HR today. His 1st in the big leagues. Wrapped around three Ks in the inning. I wouldn't be too quick to jump on Shelby Miller.

Those walks really felt like trouble. Definitely pick between those and the Vaughn play as the reason for the two-run difference.

I didn't think we played bad baseball today. A couple bad pitches, one defensive miscue and some tough ABs in key spots. We'll win a lot of games with today's effort. Just keep stacking that and all is good.

Tonight’s game is really pivotal.

The pitching matchup is favorable and the Cubs had to use one of their top starters and most of their best relievers to pull it out.

A win tonight and the Brewers effectively win the day and put themselves in position to win the season series while eliminating the possibility of the Cubs making any major gains this week.

A loss gives the Cubs momentum going into the next two days

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I agree.  If you're going to lose doing it with a spot starter while roughing up their best starter and chewing through their A bullpen is a good way to go.  They won't see Patrick staring in the playoffs, we proved we can get to Boyd  Baby Bears may have won the game but.....

One weird (but nice) thing about where the Brewers are:

It's kind of all good no matter what? Like, either we win the division again, probably with a bye, or we blow a huge lead and get to feel all resurrected for October's fresh reset, plus avoid having to face the Cubs in a division series as the division champ. If we play them, I'd rather be the challengers. Honestly, losing a playoff series to the Cubs after we win the division is the ONE outcome I don't want from this season. That's so far the worst thing on my list, it's not even funny. I'd sacrifice a lot to not even play the Cubs in October.

Hopefully the Cubs just collapse and miss the playoffs altogether, but my heart is so scarred over from playoff baseball there's nothing that can hurt me except that one single outcome.

What's on?? Even if the Cubs win tonight the brewers still have a 7 game lead

There should literally be zero panic at this point

“Panic” has to be one of the most overused and misused words on sports message boards.

I know what you mean. Also, I do somewhat fear a September collapse. Here's hoping the Crew haven't peaked too early.
