Yikes. Blowing right past us? What an overreaction. I will make that bet. You name the price.

Each team has scored 13 runs in this series

If we play game 2 on Monday as scheduled, I wonder if we get a better result. Cubs were reeling a bit after that one, and got a gift reset.

I am afraid we are seeing the playoffs version of the Brewers.

A few losses? One where we ran a B squad, one where Grant Anderson closed? And one yesterday where the pen sequence wasn't anywhere close to what it would be in a playoff game?

We are seeing a break from an unsustainable historic pace combined with being able to use our bullpen in a luxurious manner because we have a large divisional lead.

The Cubs have been throwing the kitchen sink at these games, we really haven't. We need to get some runs on the board and we shouldn't think we can throw this away because it isn't over. But it's really not that dire at this point.

Both pitchers had a 4-5 batter stretch where they couldn’t throw strikes

Only difference is Busch had that big hit while Perkins and Ortiz failed

Cubs win tomorrow and I have no problem saying they are a better team than us.    This was a wake up call and I can see them blowing right past us.    Absolute garbage series from us

Just stop dude.  Calm down.  It's baseball.  Really good teams lose 70 times a year or more.

Agreed.  What version of the playoff Brewers has Chad Patrick starring a game?

They certainly won’t “blow past us”, but the Crew really needs to salvage a win tonight or tomorrow. Blowing 4 games in 3 days would be pretty mentally deflating, and the Cubs have the tiebreaker and the cupcake schedule to erase a 5 game lead in September.

There's a bit of a worry that this observation could be true.

With the offense needing to string multiple walks and hits together, there is a higher premium on home run hitting--or at least slugging--in playoff games. This was a topic of discussion at the trade deadline about the need for another power bat and concerns about Ortiz being asked to be productive on offense. This Cubs series is a small sample size, but it is a group of games against a very likely playoff team's pitching staff. And playoff series are nothing but small sample groups of games.

Maybe some of this changes when Chourio returns to the lineup in place of Perkins, who is a good 4th/5th outfielder but not someone you want as an everyday starter. But the shortstop position has a good probability of continuing to be a weak link in the offense chain.

I think Miz needs a Vida Blue pill before he starts.

See he is dialing it down now. HOPE!

My bad, I just started posting on the site. I should have just left it alone. I just can’t stand fans like that.

that's like the 4th or 5th time this year he's had a terrible approach in a big situation. I realize his bat's come around and he's "unluckily" been up with the bases loaded a ton.  i'm cheering for him with all I have, but these at bats need to end.  if you're a power hitter you're allowed a little leeway with that cr*p. not when you're the worst bat on the team. take a pitch. step into one. anything else

Do the coaches not give take signs anymore?  Obviously he’s proven he doesn’t know how to take that pitch on his own.

I don’t think we are in trouble, but I guess it depends on what your expectations are for the squad. Agreed that what we were doing before wasn’t sustainable. But I also get why despite having the best record in baseball, oddsmakers prefer teams like the Dodgers and Phillies as WS favorites over us.

IGTs are gonna drive you nuts then.  A week ago you couldn't say anything even remotely questioning anything this team is doing less a certain group of posters beat you down.  Same exact posters are melting down after less than three games.

Respect, but I don't buy mentally deflating at all. Watching these guys every day, there's no way any of them believed they had this thing won. If anything, losing these games (and we're still along way from that tonight, let alone tomorrow), is a chance to refocus and know you have to keep battling because there's a lot to play for (which is a reminder they did not require).
