You mean the fair market where massive conglomerates can hire whomever they want from smaller firms and run all the small mom and pop firm out of business?  That fair market?

Yes, that fair market ... a small mom and pop firm can grow and offer things the larger firms cannot offer, too -- more autonomy, ability to diversify in one's employment (instead of being pigeon-holed/cookie-cuttered).  They can offer a better product than the big firms who don't listen to their customers wishes as well, very often, too.  If they don't do those things, then they don't deserve to be able to compete well.

In the MLB, the Brewers can do everything perfectly in their business and not be able to compete well in the postseason when star pitchers will be faced far more with shortened rotations AND the best way to overcome that is with a holster of star pitchers on your own roster with all-star hitters who might stand a chance against the star pitchers that playoff teams more regularly have to face off against.

We cannot retain all-star talent (hitting and pitching) nearly as well as the big market teams can!

Sabathia, gone.  Burnes, gone!  Hader, gone!  Williams, gone!  Adames, gone!  Prince Fielder, gone!  Carlos Lee, gone! Etc, Etc.

The stars shine brightest in the postseason, no doubt!

We must catch lightning in a bottle with young, rising stars before they bolt for the big money, elsewhere.

Maybe someone should start a game thread for tonight. This isn’t it.

You mean when you clicked on this thread and were expecting to talk about the game and not have to read through 4 pages of one person standing on a soap box about a topic that has been hashed out 26 times before? That's on you I think.

If little ole' Green Bay had to operate in the NFL with the MLB's rules currently, the Packers would be fortunate to win more than 4 games per season.  The big market teams would swallow up that little market so easily.

To be honest, if the NFL had the same financial structure as MLB the Packers would've years ago become the Salt Lake City Saltshakers, or whatever.

To say Adames could make whatever decision he wanted, regardless of financial outcome is probably inaccurate. I would not want to cross one of the most powerful employee unions in the country.

I don't begrudge Adames for leaving. But if I was him & really wanted to stay in Milwaukee, for whatever reason, not for one nanosecond would I let the players' union affect my decision.

Sometimes reading these IGTs are really a drag,
filled with bloviation, dog whistles, and not-so-humble brags.
So here's to Brewer fever sweeping the nation,
tonight's game can't some soon enough, and don't forget --
not every thought in your head requires illumination.

So just to be absolutely clear that I’m understanding correctly what you are saying, MLB is a rigged, unfair system, but in the corporate free market, mom and pops have a fair shake against corporate conglomerates such as, say, Walmart, and if they can’t compete in that market then that’s on them.

It will be good to see Willy again. He was a good Brewer. Let's give him some applause, and then strike him out several times.

That's where I am re stuff like this. If it's Adames, or Hoskins going back to Philly, a little "yeah, I remember. Thanks for the memories" applause in his 1st AB. Then, the guys' wearing someone elses' jersey.

I'm not there this weekend but if I was I certainly wouldn't cheer for him throughout.

Brewers have the best record in baseball………everyone knows the big market teams have advantages in this sport……..we can whine about it or enjoy the season.

I’m going to enjoy the season…….rehashing the same arguments (valid or not) is better left to the off season…….or better yet during the next CBA.

Yeah, I certainly don’t expect him to get a standing ovation every time his name gets announced. But give him his due when he’s first introduced, he’s certainly earned that, and then after that just treat him like any other opponent.

Well, of course we know the government has not been fair to small businesses under certain regimes…but, I will not get political here.

As to the baseball...........

Collins & Perkins both had forgettable PAs in Chicago. Doing no baseball stuff for 3-4 days can do that to you. That's why I was thrilled it was Collins who came up with the huge hit yesterday. Hope he's settling back in.

Perkins has always had a little too much swing-and-miss in his game for my taste but looks particularly 'off' right now. Agree with the previous post that Lockridge should get the call tonight.

Getting 2 of 5 games in a road series vs a quality team while having four of the five starters pitch poorly--let's just say it could've been much worse. Let's curb the walk-itis. And please keep Wilmer Flores from the Ted Williams impersonation he pulled on us earlier this year.

Sucks for Ortiz to miss time but having Bauers replace him is ridiculous. So are we a a couple days from having Vaughn Hoskins and Bauers sharing first base? I don't trust Murphy when he has to many bad options to choose from.

Alright Mona, many many here ... myself included ... wanted you replaced at the deadline.

I am at the dinner table with knife and fork so willing to eat the crow you are preparing. Salt, butter, and medium here if you would please. Serve it up.

I mostly agree with this, but any SS we play right now (other than Turang, and, for a guy who is mashing and who we really need in October and had some arm trouble when throwing from short, I think messing with his spot at the keystone right now is nuts), anyone we call up is going to hit ninth and start at SS. Makes sense to run Mona out there because we clearly trust him to give us decent PAs at the bottom of the order, which is probably not true of Zamora. I guess I can see wanting a lefty bench bat who can play OF too.

Would I rather see a great defensive SS brought up with the idea that his ABs are VERY limited? Yeah. For sure. But I can squint my way around the logic and trust the FO too.

When I go back to Milwaukee, I get booed wherever I go because I left my friends and family to go to college and then elsewhere for a job.

I'm already bracing for the rough reception I'm going to receive when I take my daughter to Madison next week. Disloyal to the state that conceived me.

For enough money, I'll follow you around and boo you.

I bet when Hoskins is ready Bauers will get cut/released.

I’m sort of terrified for the mental health of this board, including my own, the first time we see Andrew Vaughn missing from the lineup card in favor of Jake Bauers, because we all know that is absolutely happening sometime in the next week.

Hoskins serves no purpose for the 2025 brewers unless Vaughn gets a debilitating disease, injury or goes missing for two months

And Bauers serves a purpose? Bauers Batted .211 in Nashville with 19 at bats.

Yeah, I really don’t get why they don’t just DFA him and get someone who can actually play shortstop up. Maybe they just don’t want to start the clock on Pratt, I don’t know.

Yeah. I think a large part of it is looking at it like this: it gives you a LHB off the bench not named Anthony Seigler, along with a switch-hitter (If Perkins is on the bench) & usually at least one RHH.

The downside is now Turang is the backup SS, which I don't like. But part of me thinks Monasterio might actually be less apt to be PH for than Ortiz was.

Zamora or even Murray instead of Bauers is a decent argument though. We'll see how this works.

Vaughn has .808 OPS in August. I think Hoskins can give Vaughn a break once or twice per week and produce similar OPS.

Game hasn't started.

It’s still possible to talk about the game and upcoming series and their impact on the playoff race instead of totally off the field issues like the financial structure of MLB.

It is also possible to start a separate thread if you  think that subject hasn’t already been covered.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
