Let's move on to 2026, guys.  Biggest question this offseason will be whether they trade Freddy.  If not, they'll have him, Miz, Patrick, Priester, Gasser, and Myers all candidates to start.  Am I forgetting anybody?  Perhaps they bring back Woody on a one year deal.  We know they won't sign anybody else.

Please DFA Ashby. I've seen enough to last a lifetime.

Had a great year. Get rid of him and eat his contract!?  Good idea.

He's not going anywhere, I think you know this, don't worry trying to explain it.

I bet it's Woodruff, Priester, Miz, Henderson, Patrick

I bet we trade Freddy.

I don't think Woodruff is going to be on the team next year. The way he was talking at the end of the year, it sounded like he knew his days in Milwaukee were over.

I wouldn't dismiss Hall. He, Ashby, Myers, Gasser and Patrick are all guys who I assume would like to start, although IMO Ashby should stay in the BP. Patrick looked great as a 1-2 inning guy so maybe he should as well. Sort out the others for the final 2 spots (3 if Peralta is dealt).

It's hard for me to decipher what they're thinking re Woodruff. I know the health gods haven't been good to him but I'd like to see some sort of mutual 'prove it' deal. He was surprisingly good for several starts & I absolutely love his attitude.

Just to try to sound insightful, for a mid-season surprise (if needed) I'll go with Coleman Crow.

Until October.

Miz for sure, Patrick for sure, Priester for sure. Freddy probably gets traded and I don’t think Woodruff will be back. Probably one vet signing like Quintana.

Then Henderson, Hall, Myers, and Gasser are all candidates for a spot,

Re: Woodruff, I just don't know what seems realistic there. The buyout is I believe half the contract number, I don't know what his market would look like this year but it seems conceivable to me he could find at least another $10MM somewhere else.

1) Freddy or Woody
2) Priester
3) Patrick
4) Miz
5/6/7) Henderson/Gasser/Myers
8) Hall
9) Hunt/Crow/Kuehner/Wichrowski/Harden

One of Freddy and Woody will be back, one won't.  Woody will come cheap - nobody's giving him a multi-year deal.

Dark horse - they keep both Freddy and Woody and trade three of 5-9 in a blockbuster trade.

You also have to factor in the probability of a stoppage.

Someone (I think it was @adambr2) in the game thread said that risk is more for 2027 than 2026

I’ve never believed any player should give a home team discount.   But I’m sorry I’m making an exception for woodruff.    If the brewers still want him he should sign for a very team friendly contract.     We basically had his family on welfare for multiple years.    Millions of dollars of welfare

he owes the brewers

I think they'll keep Freddy and take the draft pick compensation. Guys with one year left on their deals haven't been bringing all that much in trades. Obviously it only takes one goofy owner to change that though (and that goofy owner could be Attanasio)

Woody & the Brewers decline the mutual option, then Woody accepts a qualifying offer or agrees to a one year deal with some kind of option tacked on the end.

Woody owes us nothing. The production that he gave us for many years was far more valuable than his cost relative to comparable free agent production.

I want at least one lefty in the rotation, and don't want it to be Ashby

Freddy, Preister, Miz, Gasser, Henderson is what I'd like to see. Patrick looks great out of the pen, otherwise I'd replace Henderson with him.

Pitching is definitely not what we should focusing on this offseason

Freddy, Preister, Miz, Gasser, Henderson, Patrick, Myers - is a pretty solid, albeit young, group. I don't know if they'll have innings limits on the guys coming back from injury but I'd imagine if all those guys are still with the organization, they will all get starts at one point or another.  I think they'll sign a vet to add some depth. Then you have Letson, Hardin, Crow, who may get looks in the bigs depending on how their seasons go.

I really hope they stop lighting money on fire with Woodruff.  Enough already.

Agreed.  See the Burnes trade.
