Him or Matos out when Chourio comes back.

Matos will get chances, as I'm sure we'll see lefties & there will be times a PH is needed. Let's remember Perkins wasn't supposed to be on the roster originally, so there's an opportunity.

Maybe the commissioner should send  Contreras a message after these comments

"They always say, 'I'm not trying to hit you.' That gets old. So next time they hit me again, I'm going to take one of them out. That's a message," Contreras said, Boston Globe's Tim Healey.

What a douche.

It's debatable that he even got hit in the first place.

He gets all fired up when he "might" have been barely touched on his batting glove (I still think he faked the entire thing) and then makes this kind of statement?

Always disliked this guy, but he now enters the Manny Machado hate circle...

William should be embarrassed by his older brother's behavior.  When they talk about this incident between them, I wonder what is said?

I wonder how much of that was being 2-7 & trying to ignite your team? Because if you think folks are throwing at you when you get grazed on the top of your hand, you're a moron.

From 2022-25 there were 529 players in MLB with at least 400 PA. Garrett Mitchell had some of the more extreme rankings in the sample with a .376 BABIP (1st) and 33.9 K% (517th).

Despite his 442 PA coming in all the way down at 514th, his 3.3 WAR was 232nd over those four seasons. With 30 teams and nine lineup spots that is starter calibre production despite 6th OF level playing time on account of all the injuries.

Over his first 32 PA of 2026 he has a .615 BABIP and 40.6 K% exasperating any existing questions about the unsustainable nature of his production. But dang if it ain't been fun anywho.

One big difference between his tiny sample production this year versus his scattered small sample production from 2022-25 is that he is hitting the ball way harder with a 98.4 MPH avg exit velo and .411 xwOBA so far this year compared to an 89.3 MPH avg exit velo and .297 xwOBA from 2022-25.

I wonder why the Brewers pitch Contreras up and in so much. Whatever reason could there be to do that.

I mean it was the 3rd inning and there were two guys on and no outs. Zero chance that was at all purposeful.

Honestly that cleats up slide was complete garbage and should draw a stiff fine at the minimum And frankly it should be a one game suspension.

He doesn’t want anyone to pitch him inside…….too bad Bob Gibson didn’t get to face him…..

So you're saying he should change his first name to Keston?

Part of me wants the brawl to happen but we’re playing so well right now that I think the right thing to do is save it for next time.

I don't know a part of me kind of wants to see Uribe punch someone again.

2019 Hiura (348 PA)
141 K+ | 134 BABIP+
81 BB+ | 117 AVG+ | 143 ISO+

22-26 Mitchell (470 PA)
152 K+ | 130 BABIP+
123 BB+ | 105 AVG+ | 117 ISO+

Definitely brothers in the extreme K and BABIP profiles, nice thing is Garrett has the walks, speed and defense to fall back on where Keston had to extract all his value in the batter's box before giving a bunch back in the field.

Best recent comp for what the ever elusive healthy season might potentially look like is probably something in the neighborhood of circa 2023 Brandon Marsh...

22-26 Mitchell (470 PA)
10.4 BB% | 34.0 K% | 118 wRC+
.184 ISO | .383 BABIP
+4.9 BsR | +5.1 DEF | 3.7 WAR

2023 Marsh (472 PA)
12.5 BB% | 30.5 K% | 124 wRC+
.181 ISO | .397 BABIP
+2.7 BsR | +2.7 DEF | 3.5 WAR

Mitchell to left field with Jackson returns?

Doubtful. If they aren't moving him for Perkins, they aren't going to move him for Chourio.

I'm late to the party after watching the game delayed on the west coast, but going to go back and read the game thread during the Willson Contreras shenanigans in the 3rd. I'm not a lip reader, but I love that they caught Pat Murphy in the dugout saying "f**kin* pu***" after the HBP that barely caught his hand.

I'm actually a bit surprised things didn't get more heated after the spikes-up slide on Hamilton. I wouldn't have minded seeing some of the Brewers get more upset there, but I'm guessing William Contreras has enough of the locker room that they laugh it off, and Hamilton knows his old teammates well enough to know Willson is just being stupid and to let it go. Still, how did that not piss them off more?

Had they been trailing---and had it not been early to middle innings---I suspect he would've PH. The four-run inning was in the 4th. When you only have 4 position players on the bench it can be tough to make those moves that early.

I loved it in the Stone Age when you had ten pitchers & could carry seven bench guys & make all kind of moves. Those days are long gone.

I hear you on that, but that is why I would like him to stagger his lefties and righties instead of putting so many in a row.

It’s pretty much impossible to do that with the current roster construction. The lineup tonight had 6 LHH, 1 RHH, and 2 switch hitters. Hard to not stack LHH when that’s the lineup and the two switch hitters are both guys who should be at the bottom of the order.

Hmmm.  Lesser Contreras threatens violence he’s already committed if the Brewers try to get him out (what a competitor!).  Wild Mis up tomorrow. Should be fun.

Lesser Contreras has had an interesting career. He came up for half a season while the veteran Cubs won their title. As soon as he established himself, they declined. He joined the Cardinals after a playoff season; they immediately declined. He joins the Red Sox; they’re 2-8. No wonder he makes so much noise — it’s all he’s good for.

Both aforementioned switch hitters are much better from the right side of the plate.

I would definitely rather have a righty batting Rengifo somewhere between those three, they also could have used Lockridge, or pinch hit with Sanchez at some point.

I’m pretty much stating that with men on base I would like to see Lockridge pinch hit against a lefty for Mitchell, or Sanchize for Bauers. If that isn’t going to happen, Rengifo should be swapped with Bauers in the batting order.

This never happened last year.
