Koenig bad outing explained

There were two scenarios in play for this week.

1) We would piece together a bullpen game at some point.

2) We would discover an injury to bring up a starter. Candidates to have an injury discovered were Sproat and Koenig... then to a lesser extent Woodford.

Koenig's start to the year (pre and real) has a Payamps aura right now unfortunately.

That's not a minimum IL stay type injury.  Hope they can get Koenig right and throwing upper 90's again.

Yeah, I would think the plan is for Drohan to eat some innings today if necessary.

Woodford hasn't pitched since March 29, so he is going to get some innings soon.  So don't know if Red Sox are heavy left/right for a selection between the righty Woodford and the lefty Drohan.

I would assume Drohan pitches today and/or tomorrow, then gets optioned for Gasser to start on Wednesday.

Hopefully in 2-4 weeks we don't have an update about needing TJ.

The second opinion may be routine at that level, but it sounds like he got a diagnosis he didn't want to hear.

A UCL sprain is a tear of the ligament. A 2nd opinion is likely on severity of tear/treatment options. 
 

Too bad for Koenig. If he can’t rehab it, he’ll be 34 and would’ve gone through arbitration  before he pitches again.
