I can’t even tell if this is our ‘Sunday lineup’ anymore. 🙂

Until we get Chourio, Yelich and Vaughn back it will always seem like a Sunday lineup I think.

I will be away this afternoon and don’t expect to miss anything I’d want to see.

Levering probably won’t have many opportunities to whine about “rockets” that find a glove.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

The highest OPS among our 5-9 hitters is .595. The highest.

Ortiz’ .436 OPS is somehow only the third worst in the lineup.

It’s hard to understand how the depth on this team is so bad. There’s no fallback whatsoever in the event of injuries.

Obviously I can understand that unless you’re the Yankees or Dodgers, you can’t load your entire 26 man roster but we are trotting out half a lineup of completely incapable hitters night in and night out.

The way to beat Skubal is to go up there and just try to foul off as many pitches as possible and get him out of the game after 6 IP. That's not gonna happen today.

I think it's fair to say that they prioritized speed and defense among their depth players on the assumption that Yelich, Chourio and Vaughn wouldn't all be out simultaneously.  It gets ugly in a hurry when you face the pitchers the Tigers have put out there the last two games and with Murphy's commitment to use players on the roster particularly in a get-a-way day game but I don't think the depth is that much worse/different than it has been for a while.  It's just more exposed earlier in the season because they're down 3 hitters that would be in most days 1 to 5 in the lineup pushing guys like Lockridge and Sanchez out of the 5 to 9 slots when they play and into 1 and 4 today.

That said, I think it's fair to criticize the absence of moves to change their depth players at some point.  Just my opinion but I don't understand what they saw in Matos or why he's on the roster and watching the clock tick on Ortiz as a daily entry in the lineup is exhausting.

It's easy to forget that MLB is currently in a dead ball era when you are a fan of a team with a top-5 offense.

It feels like we are awful at hitting now that we have slumped to top-10 or top-15.

Fact of the matter is that there are literally no depth pieces available and pretty much every team in MLB is stuck putting .150 hitters into their starting lineup. If you're a bottom-10 team you probably have multiple .150 hitters playing every day.

Trading veterans for prospects and shuffling major league pieces in lateral moves tends to do it, unless the front office beats the odds and  hits way more often than they don’t.

lol maybe everyone who turned it off in the 2nd inning will come back.

I still had it on for the perfect game watch … ;), but hey, at least they were able to scratch out a run on Skubal!

The Tigers have two players under a .600 OPS and .200 BA in their lineup.

We have four under a .200 BA and five under a .600 OPS.

No idea if this is actually statistically true, but it feels like we must be near the top of the league in allowing leadoff walks.
