I'm skeptical the Padres will trade Mason Miller, but they are under .500 and high end bullpen pieces can go for a ton of prospect capitol to help them rebuild more quickly. Is a Mason Miller trade realistic? He will likely get expensive in arb, but it would make our bullpen super elite.

If we're going to fork out that many prospects I'd rather just make a run at Skubal.

They have like 4-5 other arms that could be available but a few of them are fly ball pitchers who are benefitting from Petco. And Adam is unfortunately injured.

Morejon would be my top target, a truly elite bullpen arm who would be the primary closer on about 25 other MLB teams. Bonus that he's a lefty and has favorable splits against LHB. He pitches a bit more to contact than some high leverage relievers but is 99th percentile in ground ball rate. He would thrive with our infield defense. He won't come cheap for a rental but I prefer him over being stuck with 40-year-old Aroldis Chapman in 2027.

The A’s got Leo Devries for Mason Miller last year. He’s still under team control through 2030.

are we giving up Luis Peña + for Mason Miller who is going to get super expensive in arb?

id love mason miller in our pen, but it’s not really the way this team should be operating.

Without doing much research, I’ll agree that sounds about right. probably more than the Brewers would want to allocate to a reliever, even if he’s the best reliever in the game.

I saw a trade proposal for Mason Miller:

Jett Williams

Logan Henderson

Andrew Fischer

I'm guessing most would feel that including Fischer is where they draw the line.  IMO, the only way the Brewers are going to get a premier player is to trade either Fischer or Pena.

Miller would be at the top of my list of players to get.  He's the best reliever in the game and has 3 more years of control.  As in anyting, it's best to sell high.  Pena and Fischer (especially Fischer) would be the poster child for selling high on a player.  I wouldn't want to have Henderson be a part of that deal as he should be an important part of the rotation going forward.  I'd hope a package of more prospects would entice them to make the move.

If Miller were a SP sure but he’s a reliever.  So I wouldn’t do this trade.  Even with the years of control I’m just not interested in trading Fischer and Williams for a reliever.

I agree. How many times do we see a closer just not have an impact on a playoff series? If we had Miller last year he would have been a complete non-factor in the NLCS. Padres traded for Hader in 2022 and he basically did nothing for them in the NLCS.

Excellent point. I’d argue the Brewers need to beef up the offense before splurging on a top tier talent reliever.
