I'm not impressed with Policy's tenure as president at all so far. This could get really ugly very soon. I'd hate to go back to the days of the 70s/80s.

As for predictions, the NFL game is always really hard to do. There is so much variance at work, the whole exercise is one of futility, but I'll say 11-6 seems right.

My inclination is actually to be a bit more pessimistic than that, though, which is something I've had to have beaten into me over the last few years. It used to be that a certain amount of regular season dominance could be expected, but that hasn't been the case in a while. I think there are two ways to tell that story.

The first is that the team has been one with more or less the usual Packers amount of potential but has been undermined by really untimely injuries. If they could only have the kind of injury luck that, say, the 2025 Seahawks enjoyed, they would be right there in the title conversation.

The second way to tell that story, though, is that the Packers repeatedly fail in ways that appear quite predictable, even to laypersons. Lack of depth in critical areas (WR in the late Rodgers years, especially as revealed after Adams' departure; defensive line and CB last year), or bewildering coaching and personnel decisions (whatever the heck we think we've been doing on the offensive line for a while, dating back to how we tried to handle Bakhtiari's absence against Tampa in the NFC championship game and extending through the poorly-executed revamp after bringing in Jacobs at RB; to say nothing of MLF's time management issues) mean that one can kind of get a sense how the team is going to fail in a given year.

To wit, I think Parsons' return and the front seven on defense being reinforced enough combined with a much stronger sense of identity in the passing game will give the Packers a very solid floor. Barring catastrophic injury, of course, it is hard for me to see them winning fewer than ten games again, and the potential for more is easy to envision. But I think we have strayed too far from the old foundation of offensive line excellence that used to be the team's true under-appreciated identity. And in a division with St. Brown, Jefferson, Odunze, Burden III, and a bevy of dangerous tight ends, the CB room remains shaky enough to expect that, when the Packers lose a critical game down the stretch or in the playoffs, one of those two position groups (OL or CB) will again be the culprit. And I'm not sure Love and MLF, for as good as they are and can still be together, will overcome that when they haven't really done it to date.

As always, I'm hoping I'm wrong. I know every team in the NFL starts out wishing for health and that their opponents don't find their Achilles' heel. It is just really hard for me to expect the best outcome anymore, when it has been so long since the team performed at the furthest edge of their potential. I won't begrudge those who still see the hope of what this team could be. I see it, too, but it feels to me like looking at the shore while swimming against a rip tide.

I looked at the rosters for the NFC North, and I don't think any of those teams has a significantly better roster than Green Bay.  Maybe somebody by a slight margin, but certainly nothing significant.

Green Bay - I don't like the offensive line.  I question much of the depth on the offensive side of the ball (again, offensive line).  Lots of question marks at running back and not crazy about the depth at tight end.  I do like the depth on defense, but nose tackle and cornerback could be worrisome spots.

Chicago - They still have a left tackle problem.  I also am not a fan of Jonah Jackson and have doubts about him.  Garrett Bradbury is likely on his last legs, but at least they drafted a replacement so they have a decent enough in-house option.  Their defensive line got pushed around a lot in the run game last year, and I don't think they fixed that.  They also lost safety Jaquan Brisker who was an under-rated guy for them.

Detroit - As much as I will cry-baby about the Packers depth on offense, that is nothing compared to the Lions depth on offense which is basically nothing.  If I'm counting right, they only have 21 offensive players on the 53 man roster which I find really incredible.  If the Sewell to left tackle thing works, they definitely have more than enough talent with the starting 11 to get it done.  But with the way guys get injured, this could go south real quick.  I do like the starters and the depth on the defensive side of the ball.  Maybe the most complete offensive or defensive unit in the NFC North.

Minnesota - Overall I think their roster is very under-rated, but they are still no better than Green Bay.  Kyler Murray is nothing special, I'd probably rank him something like 21-24 as an NFL starting QB, so definitely below average.  But he still could be a significant upgrade over McCarthy who really held that team back last year as he might not even be solid NFL backup material.  He is awful.  I like the rest of the offense.  But CB is looking like a potential weak spot, and I really like some of those young guys on the DL...but at the same time those guys on the DL are pretty young.

I'll go 10-7 for the Packers and 0-1 in the playoffs.  The way you guys rip on LaFleur, I'll figure that even if they are the better team in the playoff matchup that the game will be close and he'll find some way to screw it up at the end.

I am pretty worried about this season to be honest, I didn't like anything we did with the o-line and then losing Jacobs could be a major deal. If we can't run Love is capable with the weapons we have off making it work but all of our receiving options have some injury concerns. Also without Micah I feel like the defense is just average at best, hopefully he comes back as his old self but that is always a worry after a major injury. 

I will hold out hope that the o-line gels well and 1 of the younger unexperienced RB's plays well. I do think that when Micah comes back our defense has a shot to be a top tier unit. There is clearly upside to be a super bowl contender but right now, at least until we play this week, I have more really big concerns than I feel like I usually do week 1.
