You could argue that the actual MLB team would be benefiting more from the guys he gave up than the guys he acquired, let alone the minor league system.

If Murphy showed any semblance of consistency then Ortiz would be coming in mid inning as a defensively replacement. Hamilton has cost  the Brewers nearly half a dozen runs today

I have no doubt that he tried to do a good job. But it's been an unmitigated disaster so far.

I mean they really didn’t need to do anything. It’s not like they couldn’t have just kept throwing Sproat/Crow out there with the exact same results that they’ve gotten anyway,

I know you’re being facetious, but there’s not a GM out there who would pitch Coleman Crowe before Dustin May. That’s reality. 
 

Probably the same deal with Sproat too if it’s immediate results and not “upside””.

I hope the Brewers either put Harrison on the IL or option Anderson before the game tomorrow. We need reinforcements in the bullpen, even if in the way back. I’m glad Anderson did his role today, but having to use Uribe in a blowout loss shouldn’t happen. Romero and Senzatela are almost certainly unavailable tomorrow, and Gasser hasn’t really gone deep into games (though I do think he is our #3 starter right now).

Frustrating loss, but, as usual, this thread is chock full of overreactions.

Pitching staff gave up a bunch of runs in Cincy. That's...never shocking or weird. Hamilton had an awful game. Bo Naylor started. Uribe's coming in to get 1 out after not having pitched in three days. This is not good, but it's all stuff that happens in a baseball season, especially when you're coming to the back end of a stretch of 16 games in 16 days, one of which was impacted by a rain delay and another of which your starting pitcher had to exit after 1 pitch.

The end result of this is going to be that we go 3-4 during a tough week, lose a game or two on the Cubs (who trail 8-3 right now) and do the same with ATL (who also trail late) for the bye. We now enter a stretch where we get off days each week. Yes, we have a three-city road trip. But we also get to play the two worst teams in the division and a mediocre Orioles club while the Braves have the Dodgers, Cubs, Phillies, and Astros. 

We're about to win our fourth consecutive division title and very likely set up our pitching for a longer postseason series. Losing a series for the first time in a while, while getting good information about who should play in the postseason, is exactly what should be happening.

It’s not Coleman Crow versus Dustin May.  I wouldn’t pitch Coleman Crow over Dustin May in a vacuum. I also wouldn’t give up the guys we did for a move that probably moves the needle maybe 1-2 wins (and won’t even end up doing that) over the course of 2 months.

I mean if you want to say he isn’t proven — okay. But the guys we got have also been a “pass”.
