The Rickie Weeks Appreciation thread

There's been a lot of Rickie talk lately. This thread may go nowhere fast, but I want to give him some love. My example is - on top of his already stellar output offensively, he was 25/27 in SB attempts last year. I know there are a lot of people who really value that. I guess the bigger question about Weeks is whether or not he can defend well enough to not cancel out a large chunk of his offense, though.

His offense? The guy draws walks nonstop. with a 245ish BA, he gets a .370 OBP, that is amazing. But I love weeks hes one of my favorite players on the crew, Brauns my 1st...but thats beyond the point. Weeks is a stud!

Rickie about to bust his butt down the line, as usual.

Rickie & JJ being super dreamy.

I said in another thread I could see him getting his OBP around .400. Raise that average to around .280 and keep walking like a maniac. Imagine a 25/25 guy with a .900 OPS, playing second.

Bingo!

The guy draws walks nonstop.

And bingo!

Toss in those homers he started hitting late in the season.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Rickie is already an above-average second baseman.

His defense has significantly improved over the past few year.

He will have at least one 30/30 season in his career.

The best is yet to come for Rickie, it would be a huge mistake to let him go.

I love Weeks but his defense is still downright terrible, he just doesn't make as many errors as before. He is still in the bottom 15% of 2B for defense without a doubt.

Rickie Weeks and Corey Hart are tops on my list of "untouchables." To me they both have offensive skills that fit in any type of offense.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

My brother and father railed against Rickie all season long but I stood by... in my mind, you can't get down on a guy who just walks and walks and walks. I selected the Rickie Weeks autographed ball option on my season tickets this year. Rickie has unique talent.

I wish I could YouTube the massive home run he hit to Big Mac Land... As I ALWAYS tell people when people get down on Rickie Weeks. "Before they tore down Old Busch Stadium (II), only two players had hit HR's to Big Mac Land. A Juiced Up Goliath of a first baseman and a 5'9" second baseman." I still remember when one of his (and Prince's) minor league managers opined that Rickie had more power than Prince. But Rickie can do more than just swat HR's like Hall, or steal bases like Pierre... Does anyone wonder if he could get his BB AND XBH over 75 in the same year?

If the Brewers are to improve significantly next year, it will have to be because of Rickie's bat. Everyone else has pretty much maxxed out, but this guy could make Chase Utley look like a banjo hitter. I think he'll do it. Go Rickie Go!

On the defensive front. If he imporves as much as he did last year, he could be considered average to above average. I'm less likely to believe that this will happen, but I wouldn't be surprised either.

Yep. I wonder again about 2008. It's all about remaining healthy.

I love how he plays completely balls to the wall. The way he takes people out when he slides into 2nd or crushes the catcher at home.

And I love that he's a BB/HBP machine.

I would be interested to know how many players with a min of 400 at bats, had a OBP 139 points higher than their BA .AVE. That's pretty amazing.

Fixing the HR link...

Its July 18th, 2005

To view it, you may have to hit the "old highlights" and go to July 2005.

Wow.
