Adam Dunn

Man the more I think about this the more I really want to sign either Dunn or Burrell. Two elite offensive players at reasonable prices with no loss of draft picks.

I would think what we could do is trade Prince and Suppan to the Giants for Cain and Taschner and then sign Dunn for 4 years $40-44 million.

This quote from Buster Olney's article sort of gives me hope that we could get Dunn for that much:

And the prices in the corner outfield market are collapsing. There had been talk during the summer of Adam Dunn's getting $15 million a year this winter, but now his salary range might be little more than half of that.

Too bad there have been zero reports saying the Brewers have any interest in Dunn at all.
There were no reports of the Brewers having interest in Jorge Julio until he was signed either.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Probably because Jorge Julio doesn't register as a blip on anyone's radar, where as Dunn is one of the better free agents available this off season. I could be wrong, and the Brewers could already be talking with Dunn's agent, but I'm not going to get excited about the possiblity right now.

Well, if Sheets really does accept arby and we are able to get Kerry Wood for something like 2/18, I fully expect Melvin to targer Dunn, as he seems to fit what we need both next year and in future years (especially if Fielder is dealt in a year).

You guys do know that Dunn doesn't even like playing baseball all that much?

In reality, signing Dunn to a 3/36 deal, sliding Braun to RF and trading Hart for a SP like Jonathan Sanchez would be ideal imo.

I would sign Dunn to that deal and then trade Hart to the Rays for Niemann/Sonnanstine/Jackson and a minor league player. The Rays are looking for a right handed batter to play in the OF and Hart fits that.

The more I think about your idea Nate and Gobias I like it. I will admit that Dunn isn't my favorite player but he does remedy a number of problems the Brewers have, providing LH balance, high OBP. He doesn't do much for defense or batting average but that OPS is nice. Trading Hart for a decent young pitcher then helps with the loss of Sheets/Sabathia and still leave some room on the payroll. I just don't know if Dunn would take a 3/$36 deal but I don't think there are many pitchers out there worth a 3/$36, they seem to be either way above that or overpriced at that level. Getting some decent pitching for a guy like Hart might be possible while allowing the Brewers to hold onto Fielder for another year or two. I like Sonnanstine's control, or even a guy like Sanchez from the Giants with his K's and the Giants needing offense if they get Sabathia to go with Lincecum, Cain, etc.

The Brewer outfiled defense would take a hit but it isnt like LF is a premium defensive position anyway.

I always got the impression that not only doesn't Dunn like hitting in Milwaukee, he just doesn't like the city. Just an opinion... I don't think Milwaukee is in his top 20 or 25.

I disliked living in Texas and moved away as soon as I got a chance. Then I got an offer of 30% more than I was making to move back here. I accepted on the spot. It may take more to get Dunn in Milwaukee, but if the market now dictates that he's not worth an arbitration offer, the competition for him may be weaker than Juan Pierre's arm.

I admit to not having followed Dunn that closely over the course of his career, but where are these comments about him disliking Milwaukee coming from? It seems like half the time a big name free agent is brought up as a possible target of the Brewers, the "He hates Milwaukee," road has to be traveled in these discussions...not saying Dunn doesn't dislike the city, but I hadn't heard anything about it before this thread.

I don't think Dunn has ever disparaged the city of Milwaukee like Gagne did. Dunn has said that he doesn't like the batter's eye and doesn't feel comfortable at the plate, which is a totally different thing and a valid concern for why he might not come here.

Didn't Gagne more or less rip on the Brewers and not the city? I thought he called our club "minor league" or something along those lines?

I can't justify the money he'd require for the strikeouts. Aren't we sick of all-or-nothing hitters? I realize he walks a lot, but I would rather see us go after Ibanez than Dunn frankly. I do think Braun Fielder Dunn in the middle is intriguing though...

I don't know why we wouldn't want to go after Dunn if he was available at a reasonable price. He has been one of the best hitters in MLB for several years now. He wold be no worse than the 2nd best hitter on any MLB team. Just because he isn't the kind of hitter Dusty Baker would like doesn't mean we should overlook him.

Things Adam Dunn is better at than Raul Ibanez:

- Getting on base

- Hitting for power

- Playing defense

- Hitting home runs

- Being consistent

- Walking

- Being younger

This is a signing that, if the cost is as low as indicated by some, that would almost have to be made on our part.
