I wonder if it's health reasons or family reasons or something along that nature. He's a good analyst; I'd miss him.

Weird. I wonder if he got caught up in a sexual harassment imbroglio, as is so often the case when an ESPN personality abruptly leaves.

I remember a funny ESPN commercial a long time ago where this young lady was super obsessed about Peter Gammons and stalking him. I wish I could find it on youtube or something.

Reading the press release it doesn't emntion retiring and its open. so it looks like he got a gig somewhere else and that would most likely be mlbtv.

I would imagine that Gammons sources are drying up and that TK and BO have been carrying the load. It seems that they have gone to those two more often then not in regards to rumors and stories ever since Gammons was ill.

He is 64 years old and only a few years removed from a brain aneurysm. Maybe he is just settling into a less stressful position elsewhere. Speaking as someone who doesn't get the MLB Network, he will be missed on Baseball Tonight.

I love Gammons, and would like to see him resurface on the MLB Network, doing whatever he wants.

He would be awesome on some longer feature, scripted retrospective shows-- maybe if they did a 30 or 60 minute special on each Hall of Famer, or the history of each franchise, or other historic moments.

Kind of like the old SportsCentury things on ESPN.

From Trenni's twitter: "I can officially say how excited and honored I am to have the chance to work with Peter Gammons!"

Definitely MLB Network.

Alright, sweet. Gammons to the MLB network. Oh wait, I don't get that channel. ESPN gets worse and worse.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I no longer have a reason to watch ESPN. It will be a sad day for baseball when Mr. Gammons hangs it up for good.

Really? I thought everyone with a digital package got it since MLB gives it away to carriers.
