Peter Gammons out at ESPN after winter meetings

Just saw this on a tweet from Haudricourt. I don't have a link yet to any more info.

 

He's been there over 20 years, so this would be quite a change for the "World Wide Leader" as far as their baseball coverage.

I remember a funny ESPN commercial a long time ago where this young lady was super obsessed about Peter Gammons and stalking him. I wish I could find it on youtube or something.

Barring a health issue or something else we don't know about, I'd say it's about 99% probability that he is at MLB network by Opening Day.

Reading the press release it doesn't emntion retiring and its open. so it looks like he got a gig somewhere else and that would most likely be mlbtv.

I would imagine that Gammons sources are drying up and that TK and BO have been carrying the load. It seems that they have gone to those two more often then not in regards to rumors and stories ever since Gammons was ill.

He, along with Jon Miller, are the only guys worth a damn on ESPN. Hopefully he's on his way to MLB Network.

He is 64 years old and only a few years removed from a brain aneurysm. Maybe he is just settling into a less stressful position elsewhere. Speaking as someone who doesn't get the MLB Network, he will be missed on Baseball Tonight.

I love Gammons, and would like to see him resurface on the MLB Network, doing whatever he wants.

 

He would be awesome on some longer feature, scripted retrospective shows-- maybe if they did a 30 or 60 minute special on each Hall of Famer, or the history of each franchise, or other historic moments.

 

Kind of like the old SportsCentury things on ESPN.

Really? I thought everyone with a digital package got it since MLB gives it away to carriers.

I think MLB gets about 25 cents per subscriber. Many companies were slow to add it.

They don't actually "give it away". The developed partnerships with several carriers for minority ownership in the channel when they were developing the network. Currently AT&T and Dish Network do not carry it.
