When he said it today, it almost had a "stick it to you" tone (not sure how else to explain it). It was like he's read, or heard, the criticism of his comments and said it as many times as possible to tick the "critics" off.

More silly baseball logic. So Loe and Axford get warmed up and it depends on if we score for who comes in. Why get a guy warmed up if he isn't coming in? Seems like a waste, especially for Loe who has pitched a lot lately.

I'm really worried about Loe burning out early this season with all of the work he's getting. I fully agree that it is stupid to warm him up in that situation. Axford should be sent out there regardless unless we somehow went up by 5 or more runs. If that is the situation then you send out someone to just do clean up.

With a four-run lead is when you want a mop-up guy warming, not Loe, who seems to be Roenicke's "bullpen ace" of this staff.

That's a solid win all the way around. Solid pitching by Wolf, solid hitting (some walks, some hits, some home runs), solid outing by Axford. It's nice to get another W, rest the bullpen, and win the series with the Reds coming into town.

Carlos Gomez went 7 for 15 with a walk, a stolen base, and scored 5 times in this series. He saw on average 19 pitches per game. I know the Astros pitching isn't very good, and im not saying this makes it OK for him to keep hitting in the two hole (I don't like him there either)....but it was definitely a step in the right direction for a guy who takes on a lot of criticism (much of it deserved) around here. It was especially nice to see a good approach at the plate after he hit a homerun. I'm not holding out too much hope for him keeping this up...but i thought it was worth mentioning

Looks like the weather might be questionable again tonight in St. Louis, and in the first game of the series, Dusty Baker accused Tony LaRussa of withholding some information on the severity of the rain. Wouldn't mind seeing it happen again tonight, with the Reds having to stay in St. Louis long enough to have to take a redeye flight to Milwaukee.

I do like Wandy going with that many pitches when the next time he pitches is against the Brewers. Good series overall, can't ask for more than a series win.

Starting pitching is making a huge difference for the Brewers so far this season, and we still don't have Greinke! Great pitching can make a huge difference for a team with injuries, some players struggling at the plate, a bullpen that is erratic, and we are still over .500

Another poorly attended game, at least compared with comparable games over last 3 years. Yeah, it's Easter Sunday, but I wonder what they are going to do with the extra 10,000 Axford bobbleheads?

 

They are about 40,000 behind last year's pace. I am not sure what kind of crowds they are expecting for the Reds series, but anything over 27,000/game will cut into that deficit. I think they will jump ahead of last year during the Cubs-Astros-Cardinals homestand at the end of July if they are still in competition.

I'm slightly surprised there was so little mention of the hawk in Miller Park today. He flew around, not near our section but closer to others, and spent most of the bottom of the third inning parked in RF near Hunter Pence. After that half inning, he swooped around some more and landed briefly on a railing near the Gehl Club. He's also got a Twitter account, which is almost enough to make me give in and join twitter nation.

 

Another interesting detail that may not have been evident to all happened when Carlos Lee fouled the next-to-last pitch of the game into the WTMJ booth, knocking over Uecker's computer monitor. It didn't look like Bob flinched. The monitor was put back into place after the game ended, but from the back I couldn't tell how well it survived.

 

Nice game, appreciative crowd, and a bird of prey stalking Hunter Pence. What's not to love?
