we really cant lose to this type of baseball team. We will not even compete with the Yanks and Red Sox or Astros

I don't think anyone in the NL can. The ALCS is the de facto World Series this year.

Sounds like a perfect reason not to give up top prospects for Machado...

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Yeah that is crazy. I assume they are trying to jump start Orf by forcing him to swing in a hit and run. Never agreed with that when I was young, don't agree with it still. Just stupid (especially if you figure Saladino was just hit in ankle).

On the bright side, perfect time to have the AAA All-Star break. Can call up pitchers who are truly rested as they haven't played since Sunday.

Can’t lose a series to the Marlins, unacceptable

The Red Sox lost a series to the White Sox this year.

Good teams lose games in baseball. It happens all the time. It sucks, but it does, and will happen.

Reds have swept the Dodgers and Cubs. As noted, it happens.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

So did the Brewers. Things have gone fine since and before then. Sucks, but it happens.

Also, this game is far from over.

Well you're taking everything and reducing it to a 7 game series where anything can happen, I don't agree that the AL is a cinch to win it all this year. Actually the NL is finally getting the edge in interleague play this year.

Also even if you're talking about just getting to the WS, I would probably give up Woodruff + Phillips + Diplan for instance to make that happen.

Regardless this game and one of many stinkfests this year by the offense is not making me want Machado in the lineup less.

Orf and Keon for that matter both left there bats in Colorado. Not a scary bench right now at all. This compounds the fact our offense stinks.

Big inning here, need some runs with the top of the order.

Perfect example of closers not always needed most in the 9th. For the Marlins, this is probably the most important inning to get through.

There are some really good teams in the AL this year - there are also a bunch of awful teams in that league that are inflating alot of records by just losing to everyone.

I hate to remember, but one of the Cards' WS years came after winning only 83 regular season games - and they had a stretch around this time of year where they were routinely getting pasted. Anything can happen in the postseason - gotta get in to win.
