Postseason 25-Man Roster Prediction

This is fascinating . Honestly think they need 3 of Guerra Woodruff Peralta Anderson Davies... we need plenty of length in the pen.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at in my too-long post. Thanks for summarizing. I take the first 3 pretty easily because I think they're better match-ups for the Rockies, especially in the road games. I could see one of Davies or Anderson instead of the last reliever (Jennings?), but it might be better to keep the guys who are used to short stints on consecutive days.

Vs Colorado this year, 1.32 era in 13.2 innings with 15ks to 3 walk, a .585 whip and only 1 homer given up.

In Sept, over 6 games has given up 0 runs in 7.1 innings with 12ks to 1 walk, only 3 hits for a .545 whip. Some more derek Johnson magic maybe?

Small samples both, but it is what it is. Just saying I would not be shocked.

I guess it's not like Williams or Barnes has seized the day for that RHP bullpen depth. Still though, it's Jordan Lyles. I doubt we hear from him again this year.

I just can't see it with Broxton. You have Yelich and Cain to play CF, and it's not like Cain is going to sit. Braun is a respectable LF, and Santana has been more than adequate as a RF this year. RF at Miller is small enough to play Thames there. Perez is good outfielder in either corner. I don't see a few innings of elite defense, in RF of all places, and pinch-running being worth the trouble of keeping Broxton. I'd rather keep lots of relievers.

ETA: I'm an idiot. Been touting Granderson for a while and completely forgot him.

If Miley isn't starting the first game in Miller Park when he is rested for it (nor the second game). I don't know why he would make the roster then. He doesn't have experience coming out of pen. I would rather see Jennings, T.Williams, or Barnes on the roster.

He could take the rest of the lineup after the 1st inning and stop at Blackmon. You'd be getting as many innings out of him as you typically do from any LHP reliever. I agree that his roster spot is far from assured though, and I would probably vote against it.

Actually, after thinking for a bit, I assume he starts in Colorado. Since he is a ground ball pitcher, save him for that stadium. Is he going to get the same movement though? Wonder how he has done in Colorado before.

I am pretty sure I heard the radio guys say Noon Eastern time. But, my listening skills have failed me before.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I went through his game logs. He hasn't pitched in Coors since April of 2014. He had 4 starts and 1 relief appearance for the Diamondbacks. Starts in 2011, 2013, and 2 in 2014 and relieved in 2013.

Total stats:

28 1/3 IP

33 Hits

15 ER

10 BB

16 K

4.76 ERA

1.52 WHIP

2 good starts, 2 bad starts and a good relief appearance.

Since Lyles was mentioned, I remembered he had an awesome game of a near no hitter earlier this year and I thought it was vs COL. I looked it up and I was right, 1 hitter in 7 and 1/3. It was his 2nd start of the year.

Also, CBS has Woodruff listed as the 'starter' as of now. IDK how accurate that is

Okay, final guess before it's released. It's all about LH/RH matchups.

Aguilar

Schoop/Perez

Arcia

Shaw/Moustakas

Yelich/Braun

Cain

Santana/Granderson

Pina/Kratz

Peralta/Chacin/Guerra/Burnes/Woodruff (starters/long)

Hader/Jeffress/Knebel/Soria/Cedeno/Jennings/Barnes

It wouldn't just be for the one amazing start it would also be because of how he pitched in September and that he used to pitch for Colorado so lots of experience in that ballpark.

A staff of Anderson, Barnes, Cedeno, Davies, Jennings, Lyles, and T Williams would be a pretty good foundation of a MLB pitching staff. None of these guys are on the NLDS roster.

Surprised to not see Cedeno on the roster.

I’d also be really curious to hear the FO’s opinion of Chase Anderson right now.

He'll be useful again next year. A solid regular season starter and maybe they can work on some of his issues and get him to be a guy worthy of a playoff roster spot. But we are full speed ahead on out-getters taking over for most of the innings this playoffs.

In 2017 the Brewers won 86 games. A year later, not a single one of their top 5 pitchers in IP or GS makes the NLDS roster, yet they improve by 10 wins, win the division, and have the best record in the NL. Amazing. Go Brewers.

There just isn't many lefty hitters on that team that warrant a LOOGY. Parra, Blackmon, Dahl and Gonzalez. Not a ton of danger there.

With no Cedneno or Jennings is it safe to assume Miley and/or Gio have better chance of loogy duty than starting a game?

Yes, I think that is safe to say. As others have said, not a lot of fire power from the Rockies from the left side of the plate. Looks like Woodruff/Guerra, Chacin, Peralta for the starters in this series. Would be very different if they faced the Cubs of course. It is interesting though they're going bullpen instead of starting either Anderson or Davies. Finally, I would point out Cedeno could have been used as a LOOGY, but he really isn't one. His splits are almost identical.
