My pleas for us to stop taking called 3rd strikes with runners in scoring position continue to go unheeded, even by the best of our hitters.

Maybe. They often pitch differently based on whether the wind is blowing in or out. With the wind blowing in they may be more aggressive and pitch to contact more. Lester has only thrown 36 pitches through two innings despite five hits and a walk.
