Well, I'm deep in my 50's, and have hated shrooms all my life, so something tells me it isn't going to change for me.  lol

Well, have you tried fried morels yet?  Because if you have not, all I can tell you is don't rule it out. I used to pretty near involuntarily puke if a mushroom got in my mouth before then. Now I have a mushroom soup recipe that's been passed around and around with rave reviews.

I simply can't try them.  I won't.  Just can't.

This summer when I was in Wisconsin I got some Rocky Rococo’s sausage at Woodmans. Finally got around to making a pizza with it last night it was great. I didn’t make a Rocky’s style pizza but the flavor was very similar. So much of the taste I associate with Rocky’s is the sausage. So yeah, if you’re a fan of Rocky’s sausage they sell it and it’s good.

One of the few things I miss about WI is KOPPS and Woodmans.  I only have Fry’s and Safeway near me and an extremely expensive organic grocery store.

Nuts.  Two back-to-back posts about Kopps (in another thread) and now I'm hungry... Best burgers, best custard.

They are only in Milwaukee and there are only three locations.  If you are ever back in Milwaukee it is the best place to go.

Yes.  If you don't tailgate, go to Kopps.  Bah... do both. 😉

I will get jumped by a Milwaukee-area lifer for this but:

Think of Culver's, but it has 3 locations and has an old diner vibe. Butterburgers and custard. I went there maybe twice. The burger is pretty good, but the buns kinda suck imo. Reminds me of the cheapest Great Value brand type bun you can find in the grocery store. The custard is pretty good, but both times it came out half soupy already and by the time I was done I basically needed a straw. I know that is kinda a custard thing...but I prefer how Culver's is a bit more solid to start.

That being said...it is a pretty good place to eat and I wish I had one by me. Culver's is better, but Kopp's would be a dream change of pace for a different butterburger.

I'm with you on this (***also ducking myself from flying objects thrown at me by Milwaukee-area lifers***)...Take the old diner nostalgia away from Kopps and it's Culvers with a smaller menu.  I've been to Kopps a few times while visiting friends, and I think if they didn't overhype how great it was going to be I'd have probably enjoyed it more.  To me it's kind of Milwaukee's version of what Portillo's is to Chicago.

Nearly every time I eat at Bluemound, the custard is half melted.  Not sure what the deal is with that one... Rarely have I had that at the others.  Most the time, it has been excellent. As a college student, I rarely left anything to melt. 😂

Thank you for this!  Woodman's also sells Rocky Rococco's pizza sauce, so I picked up both and some pan pizza crust mix and put it in a rectangular baking dish.  Tasted just like Rocky's!

Wow I didn't know they sold just the Rocky's sausage. I was making my own sausage for a while but this would be way easier.

I was in Seattle recently and ate at a place called The Masonry. Neat joint in Queen Anne. Wood-fired pizza -  great crust.

I'm traveling down for the holidays and planning on picking up more at Woodman's and making a large homemade Rocky's up here in Bethel too.  I'll probably have to wait a month or so after the holidays so I don't outgrow my pants though...

Please forgive my ignorance, but if you are picking up Rocky's ingredients at the store, why not just go get yourselves a real Rocky's pizza at the restaurant?

Maybe they can get it fully cooked that way? 😂

Because the nearest Rocky's is about 4,000 miles away from where I live.  That, and I like making my own pizza.

I'm slightly closer than 4,000 miles.  Only 71 miles for me.

I have ordered a couple of "world famous" pizzas on Goldbelly recently just to see if it was worth it. First, I got Lou Malnattis from Chicago as they sort of push that on their website. About 40 bucks a piece but probably worth 15. I don't really like Chicago style, too much sauce, so sort of blew it there. Crust was great but not enough cheeze, too much bland sauce and sausage wasn't so great. Then I did more research and found Di Fara was very highly rated in NY so tried that. Got the Neopolitan and these were much better pies, I think those were like $45 each, came with fresh basil is separate container and parmesan. I wouldn't order that again though, maybe if they were $25-30 shipped.

I don't know if I will try any others, it was fun researching and splurging on Pizza from around the country but in the end I have plenty of good pizza options around me and while these others may be better at their restaurants just not so great out of my own oven. I might try something else though, all those deserts from famous bakeries may be the way to go.

It is not possible to have too much sauce.  It just is not.  99.999999999% of the time when I order a pizza and even if I request extra sauce there isn't enough sauce.

I got tired of trying bad Chicago style pizza's in the MSP area (yeah, I know, but you gotta try).  So I simply made my own.  First try and it was 200% better than anything around me.  Yes, I'll be doing that again.

This is the recipe I followed.  The crust sounds complicated, but makes it easy to get the flaky crust.  I'd probably just do canned pizza sauce next time, but this sauce was pretty good too.
