I always like Bickford when we first acquired him and immediately became one of our top pitching prospects. Obviously, much has changed since then and Bickford has become a bit of a forgotten man. Here's hoping he can change that and rebound from the debut he had last year.

Another deception and finesse pitcher who struggled throwing strikes against big league hitters, let’s hope he does better this time around than his cup of coffee last year.

With the team a MASH unit, they’re already four deep from the minors. Jordan Zimmermann will be up soon at this rate

phil bickford has been designated for assignment. the brewers have seven days to trade, release, or try to outright bickford to the minor leagues.

Life as a borderline MLB reliever: not a lot of chances. There's a chance he never gets in an MLB game again, and an equal chance that 2023 Bickford will be the Cardinals' closer with 38 saves.

Bickford may never amount to anything but kind of disappointing to potentially lose him for Godley. Says a lot about Lauer too, could have easily brought up Lauer for one start and immediately sent back down if they wanted.

To me it just came as a surprise that he is out of options. In retrospect I see it, but he wasn't on my radar for it for some reason. I wonder if they'll manage to outright him to the minors.

bickford is not out of options. any team who acquires him can option him back and forth this year, and he will enter 2022 spring training with one option remaining.

of note . . . had any player tested positive for covid-19 yesterday ahead of zack godley's contract being selected, the brewers could have kept phil bickford on optional assignment and on the 40-man roster. the positive-testing player would've opened up a 40-man spot for godley.

Makes sense given what we saw from the bottom of their bullpen in the series. Dodgers also signed Aaron Wilkerson to a minor-league deal a couple days ago. They're competing with the Marlins for former Brewers!

Can close the book on the Will Smith trade if ‘16. Brewers ended up getting squat. Which I suppose illustrates the risk trading veterans for prospects.

Bickford did not impress but probably was better than Zimm

[sarcasm]They probably want him to throw batting practice to their hitters every day.[/sarcasm]

For real, good luck to him. The Dodgers bullpen did look fairly weak and that was against a team that was having trouble coming up with a clutch hit with RISP.

Watching LAD-STL, and Phil Bickford just looked extremely sharp in a scoreless, hitless frame out of the Dodgers pen: 11 pitches, 9 strikes, 2 punch outs. He's off to a great start with LA after a brief stint in AAA.

With the rough shape the Brewers bullpen is presently in, the DFA of Bickford seems like one of the more short-sighted moves of the year so far.

Was not a fan of the move with dudes like Yardley around.

Bickford has been excellent for the Dodgers.

Agree it was short sighted, especially since they DFA Godley right after. Should have figured out a way to option Bickford instead of the DFA.
