Dribbler to the pitcher along the first baseline……Godley picks it up and tosses it to first…..ump rules that Godley impeded the runner and calls him safe.

Missed it. What happened?

Godley called for interference at first base on a slow roller down the first base line. Godley fielded it and tossed it underhand to first and was on the grass the entire time. Probably about 3 feet within fair territory. He tossed it underhand and Vogelbach caught the ball by the bag at about the same time Godley and the runner very slightly brushed shoulders about 20 feet from the bag.

They never said why he was safe officially, but it must have been interference. Horrible horrible call.

Seems like a really easy call to get right lol

Well especially since there was no call to be made. Diaz was running several feet inside the line and still didn’t come close to Godley.

It feels like an umpire just trying to justify his own existence.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

What a pathetic call, that’s unreal. I can’t believe Counsell doesn’t protect his team here and stand up to that atrocious call. He didn’t even do much arguing and just walked back to the dugout. That was arguably the worst call I have ever seen.

I have no idea how Counsell doesn't put up any fight there but it didn't look like any player said a word either. They were probably too dumb founded at what happened to know what to say.

Absolutely. If there ever was a time to absolutely lose it, that was it. Probably the worst call I have ever seen.

What can you say? That is probably the first time that has happened ... well ... ever.

Fast forward to a random game later in the year and an ump will call the runner out for being inside the baseline on the grass. We've all seen it in recent years. This was an unreal call with how they've made that baseline point recently.

Hey blue, what did you see that made you make that call? At least make him justify it.

Not sure what Counsell is supposed to do there. He argued for 20 seconds. Unless you want him to get tossed.

Why not? Whether he's on the top step of the dugout or 5 feet down the hall doesn't make a difference.

It was like he was looking for a reason to call him safe…….I mean he just made up a call to do it.

Does MLB comment on controversial calls like the NFL does? Probably not since I can’t remember them doing it.

Exactly. I'm sure he said his piece. Play isn't reviewable, and they aren't going to reverse it at that point.

Yea if there was ever a time to get tossed that's it. After arguing with that guy move onto the home plate and possibly whoever the crew chief if one of those two aren't. Home ump had a view on that as well

to the game, don't think we're scoring on this guy much. We'll see but it'll be kind of funny how they beat the good teams and will have lost to Mia/Pit. Assuming no comeback which of course could happen. Classic baseball.

I’m sorry, but there’s 0 excuse Counsell is still in this game. That’s a time where he should rip first base out of the ground and hand it to the ump or take it to the dugout himself. Give the ump the base and tell him how we don’t need the base anymore since he single handedly ruined the game today.
