From Sarah Langs

10 players who were All-Stars this year have been traded: Joey Gallo, Nelson Cruz, Kyle Gibson, Adam Frazier, Eduardo Escobar, Kyle Schwarber, Max Scherzer, Craig Kimbrel, Trea Turner, Kris Bryant

That’s the most players to make ASG & change teams in a season

Not just “at Night” anymore.

eduardo escobar has declared free agency. is there a case to re-sign him?

Just a hunch but I think we’ll move on from Escobar and either go with Urias at 3B or somebody else.

I thought he was kind of a let down after we acquired him. But looking at his stats he was better across the board than his time with AZ. I would move on and allocate resources else where though.

I have advocated in other threads that he would be my top target, only because of his position rather than Garcia. Yes he did struggle while he was here, but he has enough of a body of work to believe he will turn it around. Sometimes fans don't realize its hard to change organizations in July, leave your family behind in some cases, etc.

Put me down as probable move on as we focus on other targets. But if the price is right and other options are few, I could see him coming back. If so, I assume they would give him all of spring to focus on 1B, he could use some practice there.

I think Stearns is going to go with Urias at 3B and put any money into RF where it can do the most good. Escobar would be a luxury, but not the difference maker the Brewers desperately need.

keep him at 3rd, let Urias be the super utility guy and then let Rowdy play at 1st. It worked OK last season.

I'm not saying he only plays 1B. But, that he needs the practice there versus at 3B. If we sign Escobar he will get time at 1B (unless we also sign a 1B).

I don't think Escobar showed us a good enough reason to re-sign him to be honest.

If we got a good deal, sure, maybe he'd be better for a full year than he was in his short time with us.

He's not the kind of guy we should break the bank for though.

I doubt he gets a break the bank type deal. I think he is the perfect Brewer FA signing. Veteran switch hitter with power who can play multiple positions and isn't too expensive.

...and who is not a difference maker, which is what this offense is desperate for.

Unless you think we are trading Yelich and Hader, we aren't going to sign a proven difference maker. We have to hope for a Yelich bounce back or development from Adames/Urias/Tellez. There is hope for Mitchell/Wiemer but that isn't likely until 2023 at the earliest. Even a guy with Garcia's production is likely too expensive for us. Escobar is among the few guys who are actually likely to outperform whatever they sign for.

I guess if we find and target another Adames type guy (under performing younger player with star potential at 1st/3rd or OF) that might work if we give up Hader+.

He had an OPS of .800 as a Brewer. That sounds pretty good to me. Better than his career and better than he was doing at the time of the trade. Plus he was asked to play a position he had never played before. I think he did everything that should have been expected of him and perhaps more. I would definitely be interested in bringing him back.
