2021-09-01: Brewers (Anderson) at Giants (Gausman) [Brewers win, 5-2 -- Lo Cain’s 3 RBI night leads offense]

Cousins threw 30 pitches last night, so he should be down. If you assume 3 from Box, Williams, Harder, you need 4 from Strickland, Norris, Topa, and whoever else is left.

Milner plus their 6th starter since Peralta will be activated on Friday.

But they are planning to start Lauer tomorrow and Houser on Saturday around Peralta’s start on Friday so they won’t be used in relief either.

They’re just going to have to get some innings out of Norris, Milner, and/or Topa and if they give up runs and the offense can’t add on, just write it off.

Lauer can pitch tonight, Houser tomorrow. They can go with a 5-man rotation for a week.

If a pitcher has been prepping to start tomorrow they aren’t going to suddenly rush him in to pitch tonight. The starters have routines they go through to get prepared to start, including throwing in between starts. No point messing that up to chase after this game. A couple of the back end relievers are going to have to step up.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

It certainly wouldn't be the first time that a starter entered a game when needed in between starts.

But it has happened when "tomorrow's" starter came in relief to pitch in a situation such as injury. So that statement isn't true.

Anyone see how the plate ump last night graded out?

I know he missed a couple late but the first 7 innings or so he was right on.

Thanks. I thought he seemed like he was pretty solid behind the plate last night.

Probably the best game I saw all year by a Plate ump.

When was the last time Counsell did it?

I would be extremely surprised if he did it tonight.

How bout you go look it up. Your statement mentioned nothing that Counsell doesnt insert tomorrow's starter in a game.

But I do feel hes done it.

You're moving the goal posts with the Counsel qualifier but either way, just because he hasn't done it before doesn't mean he can't or won't do it now if needed.

Tons of hard contact, the giants are really getting lucky tonight

With Norris coming in and the Brewers having to face the Giants ace bullpen guys, I don’t have a good feeling about this one at all. Hope I wake up in the morning to a nice surprise.

I just don’t see what like about Topa so much. I realize they’re in a tough spot but he’s the last guy I’d go to in that situation.

When you are depending on the pen to give you 7 innings, pretty much everyone on the pen needs to be ready.

Though I'm also not sold on Topa, I'm good with the call of him over Norris or Milner against a lineup of Belt and all of RHBs.

Like I said, they’re in a tough spot. Cc has a difficult decision to make but Topa just doesn’t seem to me to be the guy I’d trust in that spot. He’s had very little success outside of last season little run. I have more faith in Milner right now.

I feel that Topa has a lot of potential, but it seems (to me) that he is still struggling to “find it” after his injury woes last season and the recovery this season.

He’s a back end guy for this season. A full off-season of rest could do wonders for him next year.

As for you tonight’s appearance, I think I saw it coming from a mile away. He didn’t look sharp at all and seemed to have little control of where his pitches were going. The fact that Posey even got wood on that was remarkable. Just some poor luck for the Brewers of where it was hit.
