What's bugging you? ~ 2022 ~

It was my son's last home basketball game tonight. Traditionally, tonight is parent's night as the seniors get some special mention, and parents are given something in way of thanks.

No one announcing his name starting at the beginning of the game. No mention of the seniors (there are 3) on the team and their last game at home. No calling out the parents at halftime for pictures. Bupkiss... I guess I shouldn't expect anything more from a coach that decides to attend a Viking game instead of coaching one of his team's games.

What isn't bothering me is that my son scored a career-high 20 points (leading both teams) and a dozen or so rebounds. Our team lost, but he played well at least.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Did he coach football in Jacksonville before he got the job at your son's school?

I sell a fair amount of things on Facebook Marketplace and it is generally a good/cheap way route to go. I wish they would get rid of the "Is this still available?" button or pre-built send a message text. Tons of people hit it accidentally and it wastes a lot of time.

Thanks for weighing in, Igor. My wife works as an IT project manager for a local technical college and she thought it may have something to do with accreditation. The school needs to demonstrate that a high percentage of students are making progress toward degrees or credentials. They don’t mind if you sample a course or two (try before you buy), but they don’t want non-degree-seeking students tanking their stats.

It’s my perception as an outsider that higher education is becoming less linear and schools would be wise to figure out a way to cater to mid-career professionals who want to pop in and refresh their skills. I see this becoming more commonplace with schools offering more graduate certificates, but I think they’re still falling short.

Have you ever gone to Best Buy or an appliance store with the intent to pay cash for a big ticket item that you’ve already researched, but you can’t get service because the sales staff is catering to other customers? That’s me right now. I’ve done my research. I have a good idea as to what classes may be valuable and am ready to write a check - yet they won’t sell me the thing I want to buy. It’s frustrating.

You can get all kinds of online learning from all kinds of places if you don't want a degree.

In this particular case, I’m exploring the possibility of accumulating enough accounting credits to sit for the CPA exam. I work in Finance and have an Econ degree, but lack a portion of the requisite coursework to sit for the exam.

But to your point, Homer - Yes, there is a ton of affordable non-degree training out their for self starters.

Congrats to you and your son!

Sadly, some coaches are ignorant to the importance of that kind of stuff.

Yes, it was rather frustrating. He sets up his son to be the ultimate sports athlete at 5 years old; he even wears a team uniform his own size. I couldn't imagine if his son was ignored like that on his last game.

I'm seven months into an engineering contract. My manager (300 miles away) and I click real well, although I wished we had more interaction. The last few months she has been filling in on a second role in an interim basis will doing her current job. Today, it was announced she is moving into the second role permanently, opening up her previous role. Not sure what the future holds, who my new boss will be. Even to go so far to say I am no longer obligated to this contract.

I would be asking your former boss for a recommendation on the manager position assuming that is something the company is thinking of filling.

Well, the position needs to be back-filled. However, it is two notches above what I am doing now or have done in the past. Besides, at my stage in life I don't need the additional stress.

Switching from Spectrum to AT&T fiber. I've been on the phone with Spectrum for 20 minutes trying to shut off my service. They have offered me 6 better deals to try to get me to stay on.

What a scam.

I think it's funny actually.

I have tried for years to get a better price from spectrum, and they basically say take it or leave it.

Now that TDS has made it's way into my city, they are bending over backwards to try and keep people.

Too little too late I'm afraid.

TDS offered me a package where I have the exact same package I was getting from Spectrum for half the cost, literally, HALF! Price is good for 2 years, at that time, I will re-evaluate...

What a scam.

They were putting fiber in the neighborhood over the past two years. They got to the street next to mine and stopped -- they went to a different part of the village. I will get no fiber and like it...

For years I'd done the call Spectrum and get price down move and they always did it to some degree, but it still crept up every time. About 2.5 years ago I was going to be gone for a few months so had an opportunity to actually cancel since I wouldn't need cable/internet. Shockingly, they didn't fight at all, didn't offer anything to reduce, etc. So I cancelled and haven't looked back. I can't believe this is how they run their business.

Their monopoly is now over, which is why they have apparently been budging on their pricing.

I'm actually looking forward to the day I call and cancel their service when TDS is active in my neighborhood. (early spring)

My Dad tells me about a few services that try to jack the rate and then cave when he says cancel it. Sirius is another. He pays the same intro rate from what, 12 years ago when he bought the truck. Every couple years they try jacking it up, he says pound sand and they say ok.

I got tired of the Sirius game a few years ago. No idea why I should pay for Sat-radio when I can get it for free on my phone.

I have Sirius. Having it means I can listen to Brewer games at work (I'm not in WI to get local radio) or when I'm vending, as well as not use up phone data. Although they waste a lot of available channels on stuff nobody would listen to and could use a better variety of music.

I paid $500 for a lifetime Sirius subscription 20 years ago. I have to pay a fee when I transfer it to a new vehicle, but I get it in my vehicle and via the app. Back when I was in sales and spending a lot of time in a vehicle driving all over it was worth every penny and then some.

All pharma commercials are terrible but the Trulicity commercials take the cake for cringe. Oh look my loved one is eating a carrot! Activate big cheesy smile.

Lately, Tivo started adding a commercial when you start a recording. And almost all of them have been ED or KY commercials...so much for family friendly. :(

I’m having a week:

Work stress is at an all-time high and I’m considering making a change. Our household is down to one working toilet and one working vehicle. My son has been home sick since Wednesday afternoon. He’s vaxed and has had 2 negative rapid tests, but Day Care will side eye you if you send your kid to school with a cold these days.

Don't take trulicity if you're allergic to Trulicity. XD

I had two cars die, one with with only 63,000 miles on it and the warranty was for 60,000 and my oven puked out. All in the last week. On the good news side my brothers cancer prognosis went from 2-4 months to a year with chemo. All in all 2022 looked at 2021 and said hold my beer.

Websites/apps that are asking for a date, particularly birthdate, but the only way you can enter is by changing the month 1 at a time. Thanks for making me press a button over 400 times.
