Packers 2022 Discussion Thread

Jennings has just come to peace with the fact that Rodgers won't ever forgive him, so at this point there is nothing to lose and plenty to gain by talking about him at every chance. I'd do the same thing.

Honestly just take the word sports out of this statement and it's just as accurate....thanks twitter!

My totally unqualified theory,

Rodgers' preference is to return to Green Bay, but he's intent on doing right by Adams. He doesn't want to be the domino extension/restructure that allows the team to franchise tag Adams if that isn't something Adams is interested in.

The team preference is to keep Rodgers, and hang onto Adams this year via the franchise tag, then figure out next year next year. So they're trying to convince Adams that playing for 10M less a year than what he wants on a 1 year deal is a good thing (tough sell).

If they can somehow convince him, Rodgers restructures and Adams winds up here in '22 on the tag. If not, Rodgers gets traded, Adams goes with him (likely Denver). Jeudy or Sutton ends up in Green Bay, likely Jeudy.

I think that is highly likely going on.

I know nobody has to or should have sympathy for Aaron Rodgers, but so much of his reputation is from rumors that just roll on for days or weeks and then eventually get proven false but we're still floating around long enough that they're eternally accepted as fact forever. It's a weird sort of phenomenon with him that I don't see other players have to deal with, even players who,.you know, actually do illegal things.

If the Packers are indeed able to hang onto Rodgers, then I feel like the move to franchise tag Adams may wind up being nothing more than a way to buy more time this offseason to sign him to a new contract - I doubt he would actually be a Packer and play the 2022 season on the franchise tag. Assuming Rodgers is a Packer for 2022, the Packers will get the rest of their restructures and some cuts done in the next 10 days, then drop the bomb of a new Rodgers deal and tagging Adams right before the new league year starts and somehow have enough wiggle room to try and resign Campbell and Douglas. Then they use the next couple months' time to work out a new Adams contract that makes his 2022 cap hit less than the tag value, and use that savings to sign their draft picks this summer.

At this stage of his career, playing under the tag is a bad deal for Adams - any significant injury ruins his chances for one last windfall contract. He's looking for an extension that gives him that huge signing bonus upfront (and rightfully so). Luckily for the Packers, that is easier in cap accounting to accomplish than trying to fit Adams under contract in 2022 with a franchise tag.

i guess it isn't a huge deal since they would lose their extra 9th home game, but its tough to lose one, after having to play KC in the 17th game on the road this last season.

Packers have a home game in London this season. Time to start planning a trip.

Let me guess it will be game 17 which the gold package is supposed to get. Part of me says the gold package always gets the shaft but I think I would make it an excuse to go as I have never been to London.

I read that Gold is losing a pre-season game.

I THINK week 17 is required to be intra-division. If so, there's zero way the Packers play a divisional game in London.

I do think they'd be very smart to do week 16 overseas, though. Would allow the fans to travel more because of he holiday week preceding it and many having Monday the 2nd off.

It just gets delayed by two years.

2022:

Green gets 6 regular season, 1 preseason

Gold gets 2 regular season, 0 preseason

2023:

Green gets 6 regular season, 1 preseason

Gold gets 2 regular season, 1 preseason

2024:

Green gets 6 regular season, 1 preseason

Gold gets 3 regular season, 0 preseason

So really Gold benefits as that's two out of three years we're not stuck with a preseason game.

International games are almost always October. A handful have been late September or early November, but never that late into the season.

I know people should do whatever they want but I always thought it was a a bit odd to go overseas and see an NFL game. I'm sure it'll be a good time but most folks don't get to take a trip like that too often and it just struck me as weird that you do it and then see an American football game. The Packers have a bizarre presence in many of these countries though and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun regardless. I'm guessing most of the tickets end up on the secondary market.

They seem to love October for these. Looks like twice in early November but almost always in October.

I meant the extra game 17, not week, that is played against the AFC. It alternates between gold and green every 2 years when NFC is at home. Gold gets the game next season and doesn't get a preseason game which is a bonus. Seems sort of logical they would use that game.

So gold ticket holders would not get tickets to the London game? I guess that makes sense since if you wanted to go I doubt getting tickets is high on the decision process.

Mark Murphy says the Packers are one of three finalists to host the NFL Draft (along with Detroit and Washington, DC). I think they are actually pretty well equipped to host between the Titletown District, the brand new expo center across the street (our extra sales tax never actually went away, it just switched from stadium to expo center), and the Resch Center (10,000 seat arena for basketball and hockey built in 2002).

wont be week 16, the plan is to give the team a bye the week after the trip. Don't they normally get all of their oversees games in before the weather goes south

the 2024 draft is down to GB, Detroit or Washington DC. Obviously their really isn't a better setup to host a draft than GB. I could see Washington get it and have it at the National Mall or something. I can't see what would be so attractive about Detroit though.
