Wong gives it right back.

I mean, sure? BUT, really, Hiura is just...I lack the words to accurately describe.?

Well I guess the good news is the Brewers get to start the inning with a runner on 2B as well, and the Braves have used their best relievers already.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Tellez catches that relatively easily.

Exactly. And, honestly, this is absolutely why I'm just not a fan of Hiura being forced into playing time. He is a net negative defensively. You put Jon Singleton there, for crying out loud, that's a casual catch. Hiura just doesn't do enough on any consistent basis to merit playing time. I'm all about our lower level guys getting opportunities. My basic observation is: Keston gets all the opportunities in the world because he was a first round pick. He is adamantly (from my pov) not a first baseman.

O'Day is pretty good

That was not Hiura's fault. Bad throw and he's not tall enough to grab it.

Your primary job as a first baseman is to ensure you catch the ball. He very much should have caught that ball. He needed to leave the bag. He lacked the wherewithall to make the decision in real time because, well, he can't play a lick of defense. Anywhere on the diamond. It's a real bummer.

I'll have to watch the replay again but it looked like the throw was wild.

Hiura!

Why didn’t Jace Peterson take over at 1B?

There is no place for Hiura on an MLB roster … he can’t hit or play defense

How can I/we - averages fan(s) - know this intuitively & the Brewers brass can’t figure it out?

It was certainly a bad throw, but Hiura really should have not tried to stay on the bag. Just concede that the runner will be safe and put yourself in a position to catch the ball. I blame inexperience at the position more than just crappy fielding ability (though it's a bit of both).

Oh man, I thought Urias was for sure going to score on that hit. I guess better to be safe than sorry, though.

If I'm Yelich I'm taking 2nd here.

With how easy he made that look maybe take 3rd as well!

I don't want to rag on Hiura. I really don't. I think he's a fine young man and a likable person. The throw was off the bag from a typically dependable fielder in Wong. BUT, part of your job at First is to make those plays. If the throw is off, move off the bag and ensure you catch the ball. This is the tenth inning. And, I would politely argue, in the make or break innings having Keston in any position other than DH - given we can now use the DH in 2022 - is an accident waiting to happen. It just is what it is.

And 3rd perhaps?
