That’s a perfect example of a play that for 100 years the runner would have been safe because he beat the throw easily, and nobody would have complained about it.

Using replay to see someone's hand/foot come off the bag by 3 millimeters for 3/10's of a second can't possibly be within the spirit of the rule.  It's one thing if an umpire makes a "bad" call, but there's calls being overturned that can't even be seen with the human eye, and it's time to re-evaluate how replay is used, in all honesty.

Not gonna lie, I would love to see the catcher and batter simultaneously bail on a 0-0 fastball right down the middle, nailing Angel right in the chest.  A win/win for the entire league.

He's bad, but he's still a human. Not for that sort of stuff.

And super long suspensions for both. League would absolutely go nuts on a punishment for that kind of behavior.

I would say there was a 1% chance he lost contact with the base for an instant with the glove on his leg. So that means there was a 99% chance he was safe. Does it still make sense to go with what was called on the field in that case? Of course not.

Cardinals winning the series against the Yankees would be soul crushing

After getting 6 innings with 1 hit ( a HR) from Quintana on Thursday, the Cards have their second deadline acquisition on the mound today as Montgomery faces his old team.

A Goldschmidt double followed by an Arenado single stake him to an early 1-0 lead.

Meanwhile the Phillies continue to score runs in bunches as they lead the Nats 9-0 in the second.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

At least Stearns acquired 50 relievers.

Yelich was definitely safe but why was he trying to steal third with two outs.

I believe it was a double steal, so it would have gotten two guys into scoring position instead of one. Still questionable to do it, but there was an advantage to be gained.

No, it's time to abolish instant replay once and for all.

Don't like making the last out at 3rd, but Yelich has been perfect this year on steals.

Ashby is so frustrating

He can’t seem to put away batters when ahead 0-2 and 1-2 like his pitching stuff would seem to dictate. Maybe that gets better with more experience pitching in the big leagues. But it appears to be his current weak point.

It's worth pointing out that Yelich is currently 10th in the NL in OBP for the Fullseason. His .412 mark as a leadoff hitter would lead both leagues. It's not MVP level, but he isn't being paid quite like an MVP player either. And he is being used at the top of the order, so we are getting reasonable value from him at the moment.

He's been better for sure but a slap hitting outfielder that plays poor defense is not worth his contract to this team with its limited payroll.

Just curious, was the dbl steal a decision initiated by CC?

Yeah, let's give Hiura more at-bats and his K rate will decrease...After all, he's our best hitter.

You are convenietly ignoring his reverse splits that say he should be playing against righties.

Because if he's our best hitter, he should have to be platooned...And he still strikes out too much against RHP.

Yelich's slash line as a leadoff hitter is better than most of Rickey Henderson's individual years from the 1980's (similar to the current run environment) and it is better than his career slash line. As much as I'm a Rickey fan his 80% success rate is rather close to the break even point so his copious steals aren't quite the bonus value. He also wasn't a great defender. So if my LF can SLG into the .400 provide great base running in all facets and lead the league in OBP that is worth the contract.
