Okay. I've learned my lesson, and am done now. Don't ever discuss Hiura with some people on this site as it seems to massively trigger them.

I know when I'm done with an argument, I accuse others of being triggered. 100% of the time it works.

So we are still in this game, but (while early) the Phillies are up 4-0 over the Braves. We really need this one.

It’s very of noble of you to hold onto this but the brewers have basically been out of the playoff race for at least month or maybe even longer

i will bet anybody on here what ever you want that they will never be tied let alone lead for a playoff spot.

they aren’t close to being good enough to win a bunch of games.

Has Rowdy ever advanced to third from first on a single?

I seem to remember him scoring from 1st a while back, or was that a dream?

I'm trying to work on my pessimism.

You don't discuss, you never discuss.  You dictate your opinions, there is never discussion with your commenting.

I've acknowledged that I've been wrong on here on multiple occasions, and really appreciate hearing from others who know more than me. So, I disagree. But you only ever seem to want to get personal with me, so I suggest you just use the ignore feature.

Really terrible time for Tellez, Renfroe, and McCutchen to all go into prolonged slumps.

You must make this statement in EVERY game thread from now on! Tellez, Renfroe and McCutchen combined for a run.

Include all 3 since someone has to induce errors out of the opposing team on double play balls.

I will say this about Hiura and the 42% K rate.  Looking at it in a vacuum, it's just a number without context.  Comparable to the rest of the league, Rob Deer had a worse K-rate than Hiura, if you look at K rate+

We're in a different era of baseball where strikeouts are more acceptable than ever, even if they still lead to less desirable results.

Joey Gallo has struck out for 37% of his PA's in his career and is a 110 ops+ performer.  Definitely not the norm, but high K-rate guys can be successful if the contact they're making is good contact and they draw enough walks.

Leave it to David Bell to be a douche on a milestone play.

Meh. I don't view 1000 rbi as a sacred milestone that should not be challenged.  I'm also surprised that McCutchen only has 1000 rbi in his career.

The thing about Hiura, though, is that he doesn't draw enough walks as he has a career BB% well below 10%. And Gallo has been pretty good on defense throughout his career which helps his overall value. Hiura is barely passable on defense, hence the negative WAR since 2020.

Never has had 100 in a season.  90+ only twice.  So 1000 in a 14 year career at least means he's been pretty consistent I guess.

Gallo also had gold glove defense and a huge walk rate to fall back on when the K's piled up. Which is really what the biggest issue for Hiura has been in the second half. His walk rate is 4%. A 7% decrease in walk rate from the first half and his BABIP stabilizing from .410 to .280 are huge reasons his wRC+ is 99 in the second half.

Increased walk rate to just about league average this year, carrying an OPS+ of 118. Ideally he'll be DH-ing full time or mostly full time either here (or somewhere else) next year, to mitigate his poor defense.

Still, as you said, you have to walk a lot more than league average if you're going to carry a K% of 40%.
