I wouldn't mind Frelick in left, Mitchell/Taylor in CF, Renfroe in RF and Yelich playing the McCutchen role as DH and sometimes OF.

This is what I hope is the plan. Get Yelich a 1B glove as well and have him and Rowdy share time between 1B/DH and Yelich can get some occasional starts in the OF.

Agreed. Frelick (and Turang) will also hopefully help kickstart our transition from an "all or nothing" type of offense to one more oriented towards contact. Coincides nicely with the banning of the shift.

What are the chances Rowdy signs with the Brewers next year?

He's still under team control and with the shift ban coming, I think he's due for some offensive improvements. I think next year is the make or break season for him as a Brewer. Although if you can upgrade 1B with a Jose Abreu type signing then absolutely get it done.

Cousins>Rogers, Boxberger, and Bush

As long as he can figure out a way to get strike one to start an AB, the sky's the limit.

Strzelecki has established himself as a bullpen piece.

Is Gott on a 1-year deal?

World Series predictions, anyone? I've got Astros over Braves in 7....

I just don't want the freaking Cards anywhere near it....

Time for Box to come in and throw those nice straight centercut fastballs.

It wouldn't break my heart if he didn't come back in 2023,

I've got a feeling they are going far, hope I'm wrong.

As far as villains for this season go, I'm looking no further than June 7th. Brewers have a 2-1 season series lead over the Phillies and a 2-1 game lead heading into the 9th when Hader gives up 2 homers to blow his first save of the season and Pablo Reyes strands the bases full (in what would be his last plate appearance in Milwaukee until August) in the bottom of the 9th to lose 3-2. Close that one out and we tie the head to head tiebreaker and clinch today on intradivision record.

Maybe. But I'd probably still rather have him on the team.

they should trade either Taylor or Ruiz. Probably as part of a larger trade.

Yes I think we should be reasonable in our expectations, but BABIP in 60PA is about as useless as any stat.  Just too much noise for it to mean anything in such a small sample.

I’m guessing the only reason his potential for a .300 average was only mentioned because he has a .300 average at that moment…which he has due to just ridiculous luck.

Interesting talk about the roster possibilities for next season, by people who pay much more attention to that stuff than I do.  But I doubt a complete tear-down and rebuild is warranted or advisable.  They were not "bad" just very frustratingly "not quite good enough," especially at the plate.

Now I'm ready for the "Brewerless Playoff" thread, also known as, the "Who Do You Cheer for When the Brewers Are Out?" thread.

Wow good memory. This makes me sad seeing that...the season came down to Pablo Reyes and Hader in rare form. Very fitting for this season.

I expect 2023 for the Brewers to start somewhere between a complete tear down and trying to get by with no significant attempts to improve the offense.

I don’t pay close enough attention to the minor leaguers to know how many, if any, of them will actually turn into above average major leaguers. I’ve seen too many examples like David Green, Randy Ready, Matt LaPorta, Lewis Brinson, and Keston Hiura to expect too much until I’ve seen them have some success in MLB.

If some of these prospects can be productive as early as next year, great. But, IMHO, even Mitchell is on the “show me more” list. But, if some of these prospects are as good as some on this board seem to think, maybe the Brewers have an opportunity to use some of them to help the parent club and others to attract an established major league hitter.

I thought at the end of last season that the Brewers might trade Lauer, Houser, or Ashby to a team desperate for starting pitching in a deal that would include a good hitting first or third baseman in return. The lockout made accomplishing that much more difficult. There may be an opportunity to do something similar this year (with Lauer being the most likely candidate) by packaging a SP with one of the outfield prospects. If the pitcher dealt is Burnes or Woodruff, the return better include at least one established hitter or the Brewers will be telling the fans not to expect and playoff appearances for a couple of years.

The Brewers plan for this year was to have elite pitching and just enough offense to get by with it. When injuries and performance declines torpedoed the elite pitching, the offense couldn’t fill the gap. They may have come close to making the playoffs anyway, but the record  was inflated by the weak division and the gap between the Brewers and teams like the Braves, Dodgers, and Mets is huge.

My guess is that they will hang on to Burnes and Woodruff and hope that the pitching can be somewhere between the 2021 and 2022 levels. If things go sideways in the first half of the season, they can use  the ace pitchers to attract offers in Midseason deals.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I've heard this brought up about Yelich because they actually can time his run to first with a stopwatch and not a calendar.  I guess the idea with Rowdy is that his grounders won't be DPs routinely like they are now, which won't really contribute much in his offensive numbers, but it will give the Brewers one more chance per grounder.
