Favre could have run for governor and won had he simply kept retired. He was that loved by the state of Wisconsin at that moment. Not voting for him would have been treason.
He basically blew that all up to play again, especially in Minnesota a year later. He has had other stuff happen off field after that…. Stuff the average Packer fan no longer wanted to cover up.  He didn’t matter anymore to most. He was the enemy and the Vikings were winning and kept winning that first year.
Favre graciously was welcomed back to be a Packer a few years ago when he went into the Hall and the Packers Ring of Honor, but let’s not let that fool us.
This is the truth and then some… if he didn’t throw that crazy pick in the 2009 NFC Championship game and Petersen didn’t have the crazy fumbles that game, they move on to the Super Bowl, where they would probably be favored to win. And if he wins there, in purple, his future glory days in GB would cease to exist. No cheers, just boos. Benedict Arnold and sadly years of being everything we loved about him would be erased.
Throwing that pick and losing saved a remnant of his legacy in Green Bay, even though on a national stage he would be thought of more highly…. ESPECIALLY in Minnesota ( which would be with us every stinking time we played the Vikings),

So no way is Favre as loved now, maybe a tenth of the love is still there for him. Maybe. Nonetheless, it’s still more than Rodgers, who was better for longer.

Not sure Favre is loved more than Rodgers at this point. Not after his whole tax fraud thingy.

I also for the life of me don’t know why Rodgers really wants to play for the Jets…or why the Jets want him. Just weird.

The Jets are 20-36 under their current GM, and 11-23 with Saleh as HC.

Neither the GM or coach will be there much longer without doing some winning,  thus it’s easy to see why they want Rodgers.

The Jets had something like 5 losses by 1 TD or less. They have a good defense and good skill players. A good QB could make a huge difference for them.

Nice to see Rodgers living up to his promise not to hold the team hostage with his decision....

he's got to be loving the attention and being able to hold up 2 teams offseason plans. It will be announced right before the start of free agency after the "legal tampering" i am going to guess.

You didn't watch Zach Wilson attempt to play quarterback if you have no idea why the Jets would want Rodgers.

We are now into Free Agency, gotta wonder how long the Jets would wait, if they don't get Rodgers they still need a QB, can't imagine they'll wait that long

FA starts Wednesday.

As for as mental marriage to Favre because he is relatable, meh. I think way more of all of this has to do with media. We are, oddly, more detached to athletes than we used to be because we have insights to their lives now 24/7. Favre, if playing today, is popping up all over Instagram and Snapchat womanizing at bars.

People deified them, all of them, a lot more back then. Now almost all of them get mocked and brought down to size for something in their personal lives at one point or another.

Practically speaking, free agency is open now

Rodgers will hold up the QB market. Any Plan B is unlikely to move until Rodgers does something.

That's not true, Jimmy G has signed with the Raiders and the Jets lost Mike White to the Dolphins, so they're running out of options beyond Rodgers.

Jimmy G already signed, he was top guy on the market. At this point the Jets are basically Rodgers or bust because the next best alternatives are Baker or Brissett.

Yeah, the Jets are hypothetically looking at rolling with Wilson, taking the 5th-best QB option at 13, or acquiring Rodgers. Somehow, this drama has actually put them in a worse position than Green Bay.

i expect it to happen, but I'm going to need a better source than Trey Wingo. Rappaport is saying nothing is done.

This regarding Favre is spot on - there are stories everywhere from the 1st half of his career that just don't have the cellphone/social media proof of his exploits that would've been comparable or even more of a scandal than Deshaun Watson.  Favre was fortunate to have played most of his career before social media/smartphones made everyone's world a whole lot smaller and accessible.  In the 90s/early 2000s, many of those stories were either chalked up to "boys being boys" or just willfully disregarded as a biproduct of Favre's issues with pain meds and alcohol.
