Be great if they signed all these guys and then Rodgers retired:

The Jets are basically going to run back the 2022 Packers offense, but with a worse Oline, worse RB pair, and worse play caller

But with a better defense, or at least one that actually played to their talent potential. Having a game manager QB with experience and instincts on a team with some talented pieces isn't bad if the defense is there to back it up. And Rodgers still very much has the potential to be much more than a game manager.

There's talk about whether we should feel sad to see Rodgers leave but as with Favre (with the Jets anyway) for me there is interest and curiosity to see what that team can do with him. Doesn't mean I'm rooting for him or becoming a Jets fan but I will be interested to watch how it plays out. If he wins a Super Bowl with the Jets I think that would be pretty cool. Yeah it sucks the Packers haven't been able to get back there with him over the last decade or so, there have been close calls and agonizing defeats, and people want to blame Rodgers for all of that but man, just some fluky stuff has happened to this franchise.

I figure they "should" (obviously not because it didn't happen) have been in at least 2 other Super Bowls (Seattle, Bucs), but things happen. You win some and you lose some and the Packers have done some losing instead of winning. They were still right there in the mix though. That means something. We didn't squander anything, it just didn't work out. That's sports.

After the jets sign all of Rodgers wish list players I'm betting they will have no need for spare parts like Garrett Wilson and can be included in the package coming back.

The Rodgers press conference after this all ends should be pretty epic I'd imagine.

This is exactly the problem with wanting a QB that legitimately could retire and not mind. You are going to go get the players he wants or he will just go chill at home. I didn't really find a problem with it when he did it to the Packers. End of the day the Jets can only blame themselves if it ends up badly. Their choice to get Rodgers and their choice to go sign all of those guys.

If Rodgers doesn't have some buddies, he ain't going to play...that is his prerogative. I think the Jets are pretty dumb to go along with this though.

Garrett Wilson is a stud. 83 catches and 1100 yards as a rookie last season. Other guys I'm not so sure about.

Giants just acquired Darren Waller from the Raiders for the 3rd Round pick. Waller was a guy the Packers were interested in last year.

How could we not beat that???? Waller would have been a great safety valve for Jordan.

Well, the Packers in general don't like to trade draft picks - this was a freebie pick from the Toney trade. The Packers also tried, and failed, to acquire Waller in the Davante Adams trade. My guess is that ship had sailed and, honestly, Waller hasn't been healthy in any capacity in at least two seasons? He isn't getting younger. When he's healthy, he is obviously quite a talent but he's going to be on the wrong side of 30 when he turns 31 this September. A likable and sensible acquisition given how the Giants got him. For the Packers, I guess we could always just say: they can't draft in the 3rd round? Anywho, we can probably anticipate the Pack targeting the wealth of quality TE's in this draft class. TE's typically develop slower than other positions but the Packers are in a rebuild mode anyhow.

Edited to add:

AND, sometimes a team simply doesn't want to do the deal

I think they kinda suck, actually, outside Wilson. One guy is a top pick bust from years ago and the other I think the jury is out on. Lazard is actually a good fit for them. He can block and provides some size they are lacking.

I'm wish tplush on the antics though. Setting aside reality that most of the guys are washed up, Rodgers is 40 and wants friends on the team. I kind of respect what he's doing; nobody can say he's a disloyal friend, and it's just kind of funny watching him make execs squirm on his puppet strings.

These people have no issues tossing old players into the street, so it's just kind of amusing watching him flip the script. I get that he may be hurting his own cause and either doesn't realize this or doesn't care, but it is still funny to watch.

I'm guessing money plays a big part. I don't know what Waller makes - but it can't be cheap. The team will likely be short on cap room. I think if we deal Rogers our cap hit increases to around $40m. We can handle that - but adding big salaries probably won't be in the cards.

Waller makes around $11 million per year for the next 3 seasons. Plus he'll be 31 in September. Last couple seasons under Rodgers? Sure. Now, looking at a rebuild while in cap purgatory until that Rodgers dead money is cleared? Nope.

I really hope Love has a solid first season at the helm. Given how he's handled his role within the organization and the roster, it's hard not to root for the young man. He's been the epitome of professional. He's obviously worked extremely hard at his craft. I am really rooting for a surprise performance that puts to rest all the doubters. After all the heartaches with Rodgers at the helm, as a fan, I am simply ready for a fresh slate. Come hell or high water.

The funniest part re:Waller is that the Packers did in fact beat that deal with their offer last year.  But the Raiders rejected the offer, Waller sat out the last third of the season with an injury (and probably wouldn’t have gotten the Packers to the promised land even if he was healthy, if you ask me—and I like Waller), and now the Raiders only get a third rounder.  Things worked out ok from where I sit.

That being said, I wouldn’t hate Waller for a third rounder.  But at his age and price point, might as well use a day two pick on Washington from Georgia.  I’m cool with building for tomorrow.  For the first time in a while, the future seems like an adventure, and not just another February 2nd in Punxsutawney.

The rumor on the Jets WR owed 10.5M mentioned another team. I'm guessing they are including the WR in a 3 team deal to make cap room to sign Lazard? Draft picks involved? From GB or Jets maybe both?  Rather than just release the WR and the contract trying to get something out of it? Rodgers it sounds looks not only to add Lazard, but Lewis, with Cobb and OBJ. You add that both GB&NYJ need to have the payroll side worked out for the impending draft+FA $$.  Just a complicated mess to pull off.

I have seen enough 30+ year old has been TEs coming to Green Bay for a lifetime.

Lazard does make some sense for them. With a WR like Wilson he is a good 2/3, the Packers tried to pretend he was a 1 for most of the season. He's not a bad player. Big time size and not afraid to lay a block. I'm not seeing him as a 4th WR at all - after Wilson they don't have much at all. Jury may be out on Moore but he had a bad year 2.

Lewis is probably harmless. If I'm the Jets I draw the line at Cobb. Or try to.

The Lazard signing will get the Packers another draft pick. He had a nice career with the Packers but don't think his numbers will ever be better than 2022.
