Really interesting point they brought up earlier in the game that Burnes is throwing to a familiar catcher for the first time this year. First two starts were with Contreras.

If this is actually a thing, I think it's a no brainer to have Caratini be Burnes' catcher moving forward.

This kid will save us all.

Best Brewers hitting prospect since Keston Hiura.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

So why didn't we pay Burnsie his asking price?

Because it didn't really matter.  Next year he's gone for 200+.  Yankee money.  Way out of the Crews range.

Not really comparable. Chourio is 19 and already in AA as the best prospect in baseball (we’ve never had a prospect that high). Hiura was already in his early 20s by the time he was drafted and and peaked at 30/20.

The way the game started I was worried we were going to get back to back stinkers.  Things have changed quickly and now I'm all smiles.  Close it out Burnes!

After decades of watching hot prospects fizzle I decline to get too excited about what they do in the minor leagues.

Would have liked CC to let Burnes finish. Saves the bullpen too

He looked like he was tiring in the 8th.  I think it was the right move.

What was the pitch count? Probably a good idea to keep it down this early in the season.

89. Fair enough I guess. Unrelated but Payamps has not been great tonight.

Payamps shouldn't really be pitching in close games anyway, would put him as the last guy in the bullpen.

He was at 89.  Complete game shut out would have been excellent on his resume vs 8 no ER innings. Probably cost him more than 750k in FA money.

I'd have given Burnes a shot at the complete game shut-out.

Let him go out for the 9th, and at the first hint of trouble, pull him.

89 pitches just screams LET HIM PITCH!

That last guy spot in the bullpen has many arms in Nashville worthy of an opportunity. I would readily give Peguero, Erceg, or Andrews an opportunity to catch lightning at the MLB level if any of the arms further down the order continue to scuffle. This doesn't even factor into Jake Cousins starting to find the zone with his sinker. His strikeout slider is starting to regain form as well. Tonight, the Pen went 10 2/3 IP, 14 K, 1 ER, 6 H, 2 BB. They've been simply put: electric.

Edit to Add:

Doing a wee bit of digging, my hunch is accurate. The Sounds Pen has pitched the most innings in the entire International League. Coming into tonight's knock with the Tides (Orioles), they were also 2nd in ERA (even given those innings) and 3rd in WHIP. After tonight's 10 2/3 more IP, I'd say they even gained on those numbers. I haven't even mentioned RHP Tyson Miller. It's just deep.
