Super cool story for him. He's been raking in AAA. That said another lefty 1b seems weird but I guess not many options

Honestly so happy for Singleton. I think the move is fine. Winker is on the IL so we don't exactly have a LHH DH to face RHP at the moment. Let Singleton get those AB. This is how I would lineup tomorrow.

1. Yelich, LF

2. Miller, 3B

3. Tellez, 1B

4. Contreras, C

5. Anderson, RF

6. Singleton, DH

7. Monasterio, 2B

8. Turang, SS

9. Wiemer, CF

Not really, takes the spot of RHP DH from Winker if he can hit.

This is the second time I can recall the Brewers calling up somebody with a 8 year gap. When the Brewers called up Erik Almonte in 2011 he last played for the Yankees in 2003.

Too bad for Tyrone Taylor, but probably the end of the road for him in Milwaukee.

If he needs Tommy John surgery he’ll be done this year, and heading into arbitration.

If he has TJ surgery, even if projects to be ready to hit by early ‘24, he likely won’t be able to throw (like Bryce Harper) which negates nearly all his value and makes it difficult to justify rendering him a contract.

If it is the end of his time with the Brewers; still a great story of perseverance and beating the odds.

SO excited for Big Jon. As a fellow dad, this father of two deserves every bit of this opportunity. He has been a model of consistency after a slow start in 2023. Here's hoping he takes it and runs with it.

Did they have a 40 man spot already available? I didn’t see a corresponding move to clear up space.

They did after Voit was cut loose. 40 man is full again. A move will have to be made however to get Urias off the 60 day IL.

With all of these injuries the Brewers don't have a single position player on the 40 man that is in the minors.

How long before we see …

Wicho

Keston

Sal

I don’t remember a year where Milwaukee had significant injuries at both the Major league & AAA levels at the same time

This current roster has 10+ guys that I would not have anticipated “helping” us this year

This may be one of Counsell’s better managerial jobs - keeping the Brew Crew afloat with injuries everywhere

I was hoping this would be the year that Taylor stepped up & showed why he was a top prospect with promise

I was terribly disappointed when he had ongoing elbow issues that delayed his Spring Training & early season availability

I agree that this very well could end his time in a Brewers uniform

If so - I hope he fully recovers & excels in his next MLB assignment (unless he ends up in the NL Central)

Can they move Taylor to the 60-day IL & create a spot?

While I agree with the sentiment of Taylor I don't think surgery necessarily means a non-tender. Even if the team doesn't want to pay him he'll have some amount of trade value. He's a good defender who can play anywhere in the outfield, hits well enough to start and profiles as a well above average 4th outfielder. There's a lot to like about him even after surgery. Even if they can't find a trade partner he isn't going to make so much in year one of arbitration to break the bank.

That’s super cool. We need a spark maybe he’s the guy to give it - how cool would that be????

But that’s the point, he tore a ligament in his elbow, tried to rehab it with a PRP injection, then reinjured it.

It doesn’t look like he’ll be able to throw the ball for over a year from now.  Why keep a 4th outfielder, one who is in arbitration, that you can’t use in the field? Not to mention the presence of Yelich, Wiemer, Frelick and Garrett

I thing Taylor made one top 100 prospect list (#93?) back in 2015, 8 years ago...he was drafted 11! years ago.  Taylor's path to the majors is that of perseverance while never really being considered a top prospect.  If he needs TJ surgery, he'll be 31 yrs old the next time he's healthy enough to start an MLB season - I think it's more likely his MLB career is done completely and he winds up overseas or plays a few more years with some organization's AAA squad waiting for his next shot than getting his pick of MLB teams to head to Spring Training with assured of a big league roster spot.

As an aside, is anyone else wondering if the Brewers' training/medical staff sucks?  The volume of injuries on this roster sure points to something not being quite right in terms of offseason preparation/rehab/preventative treatment.

With Taylor, he tore a ligament in his elbow at least partially last season. No doubt considering his roster status and future monies as pro baseball player. He elected, over surgery, to get a platelet rich plasma injection and try to rehab his elbow. Apparently he wasn’t able to do it, and reinjured/aggravated it. Most players get TJ when the injection/rehab doesn’t work.

Tyler Thornburg, for example, was one where he tore an elbow ligament and was able to come back with just an injection and rehab.

Every person is different, I don’t think it’s on the Brewers medical staff.

I don’t think it’s too much to expect Singleton to be Winker, but with a SLG % over .400. That would be nice.

I would imagine Contreras becomes the DH against lefties now.

I think you might have missed the part where I said it doesn't necessarily mean a non-tender or that even if they didn't keep him he has trade value.

And, my last gush post. I'm not kidding y'all. Big Jon is absolutely LOVED within the Nashville Sounds organization. Here's current PA Announcer, Tyler Clemmons (who does an awesome job with the kiddos when they are in the booth announcing batters, btw. Shout out dads!) throughout this 2023 lead-up:
