So it ended up being identical to the rosenthal situation minus we didn’t give up anything. No risk signing so this shouldn’t deter the brewers from doing this again

Didn't see that coming... I like how the transaction log refers to Miller as a shortstop

Well, his 3.5 months with the big leagues  was probably a shorter stop than he wanted...

I’m not excited about Tellez or Winker returning to the roster - I hope neither one is activated this season

Taylor may also be a DFA candidate if he can’t start hitting soon

Wilson and Sousa switched 60 man spots so four on the 60 Day. Wilson/Ashby/Ruf/Mitchell

Hey guys….question

With Mitchell only playing a few games then going in the 60 day IL for what looks like the rest of the year……..does this still count as a year of service time with him for the Brewers?

It hardly seems right for that to be the case but I have no idea how that works.

Yes.  Wouldn't be fair to Mitchell to not award him service time.

Players receive Major League service time for each day spent on the 26-man roster or the Major League injured list.

It absolutely should be the case, you get hurt playing Major League baseball, it should count as your service time playing Major League Baseball.

It doesn't really matter if one thinks it fair or not, it's a contract between the owners and union. They agree time on the major league IL results in service time and major league pay.

I get the reasoning……. just sucks for the team to lose a year of cheap service time……which obviously hurts smaller market teams more…..

So for the player its good…….for the team not so much…..not anybody’s fault……just the way it is.

I was just looking at FanGraphs' Roster Resource and was surprised to find that both Tampa Bay and the Brewers have fewer (10) homegrown players on the 40-man than most of the league, including the big spenders. The Astros and Guardians have a whopping 22 homegrown players; the Dodgers have 18. Even the Yankees have 13.

I suppose it's partially a reflection of teams being able to re-sign their homegrown guys.

Taylor has responded by posting .342/.390/.658 line so far in August.  If the Brewers hold on and win the division, the decision to not only keep Taylor but essentially have him take Weimer's spot in the lineup might be the best move they made around the deadline.

Major overreaction to Taylor's value, as it's a 38 AB sample size. We have multiple years of TT being a 4th OF (at best). If you forced me to guess he's likely a trade, or maybe non-tender option, in the offseason, as there are cheaper more talented options coming up through the system that are going to be MLB ready soon

Tyrone Taylor's value is actually rock solid. Been above average (100+ wRC+) hitter every season of his career with solid power numbers and above average defense everywhere in the OF. What you're seeing right now is a huge regression to the mean with how awful he started the year (due to not being fully recovered from his injury).

Wiemer is going to have to look like a major league hitter at some point.
