2021 World Series champions Atlanta Braves say hi.

And they did it with all Carlos Santana-like pickups. Who all happened to greatly outperform their career averages.

Pirates forums are hilarious "by the time this kid is ready to contribute, our window will be shut". Umm, what window? Y'all haven't had a window since Clint Hurdle was your manager.

except maybe add a reliever(which every time they have at the deadline, they have been awful).

I'm against them adding a BP arm this deadline. But aside from that, that's one laughably inaccurate statement.

Severino hits RH. Stick 'im between Al Oliver & Willie Stargell & you're good to go.

The Brewers have gotten -1.7 WAR from 1B this year, worst in MLB.

If they had gotten Santana's 1.0 WAR instead, their division lead would likely be a couple two tree game bigger.

That's pretty impactful.

As always @sveumrules brings the facts. The Brewers are a combined -2.6 fWAR at DH and 1B. If you find 2 Carlos Santana's that is between a 4 and 5 win difference over a season. People are way too caught up in raising the ceiling of this team when they should be concerned with upgrading the floor of the team which this move does.

Laughably inaccurate? Let's see, where do I start? In recent years there has been John Curtiss(bust), Matt Bush(bust), Daniel Norris(bust), Taylor Rogers(bust). The only one they have acquired(AT THE DEADLINE..key phrase) in recent memory that was any good was Drew Pomeranz.

I think Rowdy actually returning to get meaningful playing time this season is already a bit of a stretch - plus he sucked before he got injured this season.

No, Rowdy did not suck before he got injured.  He had a .830 OPS on June 1st (and a .878 OPS as late as May 25th). Then he had a .442 OPS in June.

Looks like he sucked after he got injured.

The people crapping on this trade need to forget about fantasy baseball and join the real world. This was a solid move. Not earth-shaking but it made the Brewers a better team on both offense and defense for a very reasonable cost.

As you know, I'm not one who believes the Hader trade was the reason the team missed the postseason last year. But talk about a shift from last deadline.

And that's fair, but come on, what in the Brewers past indicates they will go out and get 2-3 more bats? They upgraded 1B, but for my $$, still need upgrades at 2B, 3B, DH and an OF spot. And no, calling up Hiura  or moving internal pieces around, doesn't count.

Considering this is the first time Arnold has been in charge I'm not sure how relevant what they've done in the past is.

Yeah nobody is acting like they just acquired Machado……..

They improved the team without giving up too much…….good for Arnold.

I’m still unsure how on one hand, the Hader trade was devastating, but if you add players and demote, DFA, or bench guys who’ve been on the team all year, that’s cool. Seems like a major shakeup either way.

Luis Urias is smoking hot in AAA right now and has been a 110 wRC+ hitter the last two seasons. That would upgrade 2B and/or 3B.

Another positive -- Over the past month, Montestario is at .354/.415/.448.  His wRC+ is 140.  K% is 20.0.  He should be getting playing time over Urias and Anderson in the infield.  He must not be sent down and if he is blocking Urias, so be it.

Congrats on correcting your earlier post ("every time they've been awful"). Pomeranz certainly was effective. Jeremy Jeffress was far from awful in '17 also. And we all know about pickups in other years before (or after) the deadline that bolstered the BP. K Rod, Soria, X Cedeno. Even Jordan Lyles was a contributor out of the pen in (I think) 2018.

I don't know what the AT THE DEADLINE specific accomplishes outside of shrinking the pool. But AT the deadline, in recent years, you aren't far off FWIW.

I would say it would come at the expense of Turang and Miller.

Big time meh. I wish they could have found more avg/obp for this team.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Meh is good for this team.         That’s how bad they are n offense

A lineup of

LF Yelich

1b Santana

C Contreras

SS Adames

DH (insert reasonable trade target)

RF Frelick/Wiemer

CF Chourio

3b Urias/Monasterio/BA

2b Turang/Monasterio

Looks pretty solid and very strong defensively

Because people said they need another BP arm, which would mean acquiring one at the deadline. My point was they haven't had good luck with adding arms at the deadline. In the offseason, yes. But not at the deadline. Their BP is fine, just add more bats.
