Can we PLEASE get the &^%$#@! 27th out!?!??!

Thank You.

I've had lots of family biz the last couple of days, but I was shocked and pleased to see us up 7-0. Not quite so shocked (but still quite pleased) to see us win 7-3 with the tieing run on deck.

It's a WIN!!

Nice to get the win.  Struggling to get the final outs lately.   I feel like there’s options to make this team better but for whatever reason they choose not to go that route

Brewers for whatever reason seem convinced that Clayton Andrews numbers at AAA are real but Keston Hiura are not. Make it make sense.

Andrews is the very last guy in the expanded September bullpen, and has an option.

The Brewers just traded for two players, SantanCanha, that play Keston’s positions plus Contreras to rotate through DH when he isn’t catching. And Rowdy.

There is nowhere for Hiura to play.

Andrews is unfortunately a AAAA player it looks like.

Nah just AAA.  When I think of AAAA players I think of guys who get multiple stints in the bigs but just can't quite stick and they crush it in AAA.  Hiura is a great example.  Andrews is a 5 foot nothing batting practice pitcher who should never see the big league roster.

And if Hiura was up and was getting the equivalent playing time that Andrews was, you wouldn’t be happy with that, either.

Where has our bullpen ranked in the last month or so.     It doesn’t seem to be shut down like it was in the middle of the season.

Last 30 days the Brewers bullpen is 8-3.

Only three teams bullpens (Rays, Mariners & Nationals) have been credited with more wins.

Only four teams bullpens (Braves, Dodgers, Astros & Cardinals) have lost fewer games.

Their Win Probability Added of +0.81 is 9th last 30 days (vs 1st on the season as a whole), so they haven’t been as lockdown as earlier in the season, but it also hasn’t really cost them in terms of wins and losses.

Brewers bullpen last 30 days ERA of 3.38 ranks 7th and FIP of 3.76 ranks 8th vs seasonal marks of 3.73 ERA (10th) and 4.12 FIP (13th) so they’ve been better at both raw run prevention and via peripherals over the last month.

Giants really suck now. We kinda got the short end playing them when we did.

They’re a terrible defensive team, and misplayed at least 4 balls in the game with the Cubs tonight.

Man, the Cubs hitters are firing on all cylinders lately: beat out a couple infield hits then someone knocks a mistake pitch over the fence.

If everyone focused more on the Brewers (or Connor Joe's hair) and less on other posters, we could achieve world peace.

Still don't understand why they don't start using Gasser out of relief. Especially if Rea is our 6th starter.

Because with Houser on the IL they will likely need him as a starter at some point during their upcoming 17 games in 17 days stretch.

Right now, Rea is the 5th starter.

Sophia said tonight that Houser will be returning to the rotation during that stretch.

Yes there is - they just chose not to give Hiura an opportunity to do so because they torched through his options like a kid in a candy store the last few years.  I liked the Santana trade because of concerns with Rowdy at the time and was ok with acquiring Canha despite strongly feeling like the Brewers could have gotten the same offensive production from Hiura.  I didn't feel like either move should have prevented the Brewers from getting Hiura back up to the Majors in early August.

but I digress...

The main issue I have is the Brewers' insistence for their expanded 28 man roster having to include 14 pitchers when they don't have 14 arms worthy of pitching in the majors currently on the 40 man due to IL/rehabs (Teheran, Ashby, Houser, Lauer, etc) or a reluctance to add worthy prospects to the 40 man for the first time (Gasser) while keeping Winker on the 40 man in quasi rehab stint/IL purgatory, where this zero chance of him contributing anything positive to the MLB club.  By taking that approach the Brewers wind up with a trashfire at the end of their pen for a handful of important early September games that does them more harm than good - maybe not directly in the W/L column but unnecessary use of key relievers at a time when extra rest for them is crucial.  That active roster spot would be much better served during this stretch that had enough off days to rest arms for a 15th position player that would provide more value to the MLB club than a mop up guy who can't be counted on to mop up.  Have to think Ashby might be in line for a callup if he's healthy after another rehab appearance or two to solidify the pen during this upcoming stretch of games - at least to provide a guy you know can get outs in lower leverage situations while he rounds into form.

This doesn't even factor in Donaldson, who really hasn't done much in a few games at AAA while Monasterio has been hitting better.

It hasn't even been a few games for Donaldson. Today was literally his second game.

As for Hiura, his problem is that he got injured right when they might have considered calling him up. And then for a while upon returning from injury, he wasn't performing close to as well as he did earlier in the season. He regained his form eventually, but by that time the Brewers had Santana and Rowdy was due to return.

The difference with Andrews is that Andrews has options. Hiura doesn't.

Over the last month the top nine position players have 70+ PA each. After that it is Caratini (32), Wiemer (32), Tellez (24), Anderson (16), Miller (3).

They’re barely using the 13th or 14th position player on the roster, I don’t see how a 15th would have much opportunity to add value.

Sure, the 14th pitcher might suck so bad that you might have to use the 13th pitcher anyway, but if the 14th pitcher wasn’t even on the roster you’d have to use the 13th pitcher no matter what.

I’d rather roll the dice on saving the bullpen an inning here or there over the last month than carry an extra position player that will never see the field.
